My search light on the front of the boat stopped moving. The two bulbs light fine. When i pointed the light up, from the joy stick on the control panel, it stayed right there. The light no longer moves in any direction from the joy stick at the control panel. I have checked the fuses and every thing is fine. I also metered the circuit at the back of the joy stick and there is 12 volts and a good ground. I am new at boating but am ok at electrical and machanical. Maybe someone out there has had the same issue. I had owned the boat just two days before this happend. The previous owner did go up front and moved the spot light freely by hand, in any direction without a problem. I'm not sure he should have done that, but he did!! Thank You JKH

Do you know what model light you have or can you provide a photo?

There are troubleshooting guides out there for most.

In a lot of cases dissassembly and cleaning of the slip ring/contacts does the trick.

I just cleaned the joystick contacts on my seachlight during summer. I'm guessing mine is an older version than yours because i purchased mine sometime in the early 80's, I just move it from boat to boat using a removable mount. It wasn't a bad job, just had to figure out all the contact points, the ground side didn't use actual contacts.
