I have tried to reset the fuel level fault with no success. I have even done a master reset. Does anyone have any ideas?

If you did a master reset you will have to recalibrate the the sender per the Smartcraft instruction guide. If you don't have that I can look for a link. It could be a problem with the actual fuel sender. Unfortunately that will be hard to tell without the error code which you cannot get without scanning the ECM. Can you post EXACTLY what is shown on the LED readout?

Thank you for replying. The read out says: Fault Fuel Level. That's it. Please do send the link for the instruction guide, my book that I have says to
go to default or use the adding of fuel?? Which I am not going to do because I am just over 3/4 tank of fuel.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I will try it again, I have done this. Maybe when the fuel read out for capacity comes up I have been putting 100 gals in. Maybe if I zero that out then do default it may work, I will let you know
Thanks

It could always be the fuel sender went bad too or the connection has come loose. Just figured it would be easiest to check first things first since you did do a master reset.

Upon looking through the manual, I would say the generic message of "Fault Fuel Level" probably points to one of (2) possible faults. Either fault #75 FUEL LVL CKT HI or #76 FUEL LVL CKT LO. Since you only have one fuel tank, the description is below-

#75 FUEL LVL CKT HI Explanation: Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Open- Possible Root Cause: Wiring or Sensor Problem

#76 FUEL LVL CKT LO Explanation: Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Shorted- Possible Root Cause: Wiring or Sensor Problem

Remember, your Smartcraft Gauge Set Tachs report data from the Port and Starboard Engine individually. The Speedo LCD displays combined data. Since the 280 only has a single fuel tank, the fuel sensor can only connect to one engine ECM. On my 280, I am almost positive this is the Port engine (too long away from boat) and I am assuming yours would be the same. Make sure that when doing all this, not only to have the ignition keys turned on but also have both ignition switches set to the ON position. You dont have to start the engines but you will want both ECMs powered on so they will be sending active sensor data to the gauge cluster.

I'm having the same problem. Over the winter I replaced the engine and when we finally started it last weekend my smart craft read "fuel level fault" and I had a flashing AL in the top corner which I know is an alarm. I'm assuming the alarm is because of the fuel level fault but not completely sure. I'm gonna recheck all my wiring this weekend.
Capt Greg did you ever figure out what the problem was?

Greg,

I had this problem. Does you needle gauge work correctly? Mine did, the problem was that the right Smartcraft was looking for a second fuel tank that did not exist. I do not know how or why it started looking but programming it for no tank cleared the alarm.

I figured out the problem with mine. My analog guage also did not work and it was a wire we missed when putting the engine back in. The worst part is the wire plugged into a short lead on the back of the engine labeled with a big pink tag that says fuel level.

I know this is an old discussion but after I filled both my tanks full this happened to me. Anyone have an idea of what could cause the problem or how to get rid of the fault? I just brought the boat. It’s a 2006 340. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

It says fuel level CKT high

No. Not yet. As of now I just turn the alarm off and keep going. If you get someone that can help let me know and I’ll do the same
