Wow.

Stopped by to see Rusty. After we visited for a bit, he motioned for me to come on "you gotta see this".

First time I have seen the newest L Class, the 520. Admiral and I both fell in love with the boat. Galley in the rear, dual helm, and an cockpit seating area that you can totally reconfigure.

If you are at the boat show - you should check this one out.

We're going tomorrow and plan to see Rusty. Hopefully we'll get the same tour!

Check out the name tag...

Rusty had a west coast Sea Ray club name tag on

Mark,

I looked at some pics on Sea Rays website. Is this essentially a new version of the 47 sedan bridge?

It is a really nice boat. I am very impressed with it as well. Cockpit is very versatile and open with a lot of seating. I took the 51fly out and if you are at the bridge helm you can’t see aft too far because the hardtop is in the way. On this boat they shortened the hardtop and added an electric sunshade so that solves that problem as well. It will be in my future someday once someone buys it new and takes the depreciation off the top for me.

They were building the fly 520 (hull #1) when we visited in March. I was sworn to secrecy!

Mark,

Zach, I would not say this is just a new version of the 47DB, but it certainly has a lot of the concepts that make the 47DB a great boat.

First impression when we saw the aft galley - ok - this is a bigger better 47. But as went deeper, a lot more than that.

This boat was full of innovation coupled with well thought out design.

For example after climbing to the fly bridge I realized the stairs were different. I asked one of the Sea Ray people about it, he confirmed that they had redesigned the stairs. Changed the rise of the steps to be more like we have in a house. Climbing was easier, more natural.

That is the kind of detail that has gone into this boat.

The table in the cockpit is different. Instead of the traditional centered support - the support post is on one end, the table cantilevered and able to swing 90 degrees. You can easily reconfigure the cockpit to be focused inward to the salon or outward to the docks.

When we were shopping for a 47DB a few years ago I found that people had strong opinions about the layout. They either really liked it or they did not like it.

With this boat, if you like the 47db layout - you will love this. But for those that were not wild about the 47DB layout, they will really like this boat.

Got to meet Rusty today. That man has a passion for his brand and he gave us a great tour of the Fly 650. We were impressed but then we went and looked at many other brands. So then we were really impressed. We ended up liking the Sea Ray better than anything we saw in its class. Too many small things to list, and there were small things here and there that we liked on other brands but to make a decision on the overall boat it's a fairly easy choice to stay with sea ray.

Rusty - thanks for the tour and the conversation. Me and the little lady enjoyed it immensely.
