There is a bilge pump and a float switch under the starboard side second stateroom bed.
My sump drain overflowed due to a malfunction and the water flowed down to that pump under the bed. However that pump did not activate. Made for a messy cleanup.
Anybody ever have this problem and if so how to resolve it? Was considering an automatic pump.

It happens to us all. If your galley sink drains into the shower sump, consider plumbing that so that it just drains overboard, a lot of us have done that to eliminate the crud and grease from dirty dishes entering the shower sump. But even so it’s a lousy setup, so I drilled and installed a thru hull through the bulkhead and extended the overflow hose coming from the shower sump and connected it so if the shower sump over flows again, it will drain into the forward engine room bilge and that pump can get rid of it. Then just rinse out the e/r bilge like normal. I’ll take a picture and post it in a few minutes

just find out why that pump didn't activate, repair it, and you should be good. Just be sure to check the pump occasionally in the future.

I installed a second float switch at the half full line in the sump, It activates a alarm, ( back up alarm for a forklift ) That will let us know we have a problem before the mess. Cleaned ours up twice and that was enough of that !!!

Problem with most pump float switches are they don't activate until at least 2 inches of water has accumulated, and shut off around 3/4 inch of water. So in the area of the boat in question it still leaves a mess.

One possible solution is an electronic bilge pump switch which activates when any water is sensed and keeps the pump running for a predetermined time.
