I have no light indication on the electronic switch pad unit (RHS of the steering wheel) on a Sea Ray 225 Weekender but the buttons (bilge, horn, blower etc) operate ok, any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

Double check that the harness is plugged in firmly.

I also have a seperate issue with my switch pad. I can turn on the nav lights, but cannot turn them off. I have to turn the battery switch to off to get them to turn off. All the other switches work fine, including the anchor light switch.

not a big deal, but kinda irritating

I tried unplugging it and re-seating the connector, no good, is there any way to test the power to the lights on the panal?

I too have a problem with the indicator light for my blower. It's out. All other lights on the pad work. Sea Ray says entire board/switch panel needs to be repaced for just that single light indicator ($265) ?? It looks like the pad/rubber can be removed and then trouble shoot/replace that single led bulb. Worth a shot.

no such thing as 'troubleshooting' these things...the only people that know anything about them are the manufacturer (Digital Switching Systems)...they 'may' try to help if you have electronics knowledge and a volt/ohm meter...just went thru 4 weeks and ended up diagnosing the problem and replacing the EIM and switch pad...sucks but that is the was they were built.

Yeah probably a bad switchpad. If you have a good relationship with the dealer maybe you can borrow one to plug in to your EIM and test. My dealer has a "shop unit" they use for this type of testing that they loaned me once. Could be the EIM but be sure before you buy the pad if you can. From what I understand these were very prone to trouble and that is why Sea Ray discontinued their use.

nope. there is electronic circuit board inside switch panel and only 4 or 5 wires coming out from that thing, all digital. if you missing ALL indicator lights on keypad it is almost 100% that keypad needs to be replaced

Hi everyone-

Two questions here, my swithpad is shot and Marine Max is telling me that the replacement is discontinued, I've looked all over the net and can't locate one, any ideas?

Also, how do I post a new topic on this site? I've searched and can't seem to find that tab either only a way to post this reply.

Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately the switchpad is discontinued. I was told the same thing initially by Sea Ray about the EIM but when I pushed them, I got a replacement part number. These switchpads were used on thousands of boats so someone is bound to have one.

I would start by contacting some dealers near you to see if they have one in stock. If not, press SR to see if they will give you a replacement part number. You could also try and contact the OEM, Digital Switching Systems. If all else fails, PM me and I may be able to put you in touch with someone who can help.

Guys,

I got a replacement key switch (part # MM353618 Electronic Key Pad) from Marine Max about a month ago and had to returned it; I had no lights on the new unit either. I must have a problem in the wiring. The buttons operate, but no lights. Any ideas?

What model year is your 225WE Kieran?

I saw both the key pad and the switch pad for sale by Great Lakes Skipper. Go to www.greatlakesskipper.com, then to "electrical supplies," then to "switch panels," and you should see both of them. I would have included the links to the individual items, but the site has been down all day. Hopefully it will be back up soon. Flounder Pounder is another good source for surplus Sea Ray parts. The link is www.fpmarine.com.

Sea Ray made these items first in all-black, and then later in a wood grain finish. The ones I saw are the newer wood grain versions. I assume they connect the same way, but you may want to confirm that with Sea Ray.

My switch pad is starting to go too. This winter I plan to take the whole thing apart, have new custom panels made by Scott Cambra at Vector Imaging, and use Carling Contura rocker switches for everything. I've never liked the switch panel anyway. To me, it's always seemed like too much style at the expense of function. Same with the small and poorly-positioned deck cleats (can barely use 1/2" line), small fuel capacity (good for about 5 hours only), and worst offender the duck horn (first thing I changed on the boat).

Good luck.

Sorry, I was away for a while, thank you for the reply. It’s a 2006 225 WE. The funny thing is the buttons work, the back lighting on the panel works when the nav lights are on (the buttons glow green), but the individual buttons do not light when in use. It states in the manual that the lights should come on when the buttons are pressed. I changed the panel and had exactly the same results, so it must be in the wiring somewhere. The puzzling thing is you would think the button lighting would be a function of the panel and not individual wiring; it only has 5 wires feeding a panel that has 8 functions. I’m stumped, any ideas?

Kieran, I am not sure what to tell you. It must be the wiring or the EIM itself not sending the proper signal to the keypad to light the LEDs. My gut tells me it is something wrong with the EIM though. The original EIMs were discontinued but there is a replacement available. I had received the part number from Sea Ray but I have since lost it. They should be able to get the info for you. Only problem is that I doubt they will take back the EIM if that turns out not to be the issue. I think you were lucky MM let you return that keypad after you tried it.

Guys, I checked out the wiring and I’m getting the correct voltage and ground readings to the switch module, it must be as you said, the EIM itself. I’m having trouble locating one, any ideas? Kieran
