Seacore not doing well

Th boat was pulled this week. All of the original black, shiny Mercruiser paint is intact as it was when new. Crusted with barnicles in places, but no signs of flaking, cracking, or chipping. There are small spots on the trailing edge of the anticavitation plates where the anodized surface is visible. The margins are solid. I couldn't get it to peel off with my finger nail. The antifouling outdrive paint is going on next year.

Can you post a picture of what it looks like?

I'll take pictures of mine once it's in storage too.

Jack F, both my B3s (non seacore) uppers/lowers need to be replaced only after one year, oh and maybe the transome assembly too.

:wow: any pictures, what is the reason they gave you, corosion?

Here are the pictures I took today of the outdrives. Keep in mind the boat was just pulled and not yet cleaned. The anodes were replaced. There is some sediment on the drives and a lot of barnicles. The paint underneith is solid as you can see.

The barnacle growth is only from August 1 till now. Next year I'm using outdrive antifouling paint like I did on my 290.

Barnacles anyone?

I'd be freaking out to see barnacles on my drive. I know it's a known issue when you moor the boat in the water all season, but that's why when I'm big enough to stay in the water I'll have inboards. Thanks for posting the pictures.

I didn't realize you trailered. I thought you had a slip.

Late update but it took a while for the dealer and merc to come up with what they think caused the problem.

Merc says that the dealer didn’t apply the anti fouling paint correctly on the drive, the dealer says they do it the same way on all the out drives and only the Seacore drives have this problem (all the Seacore drives are doing this here), the paint coming off is the anti fouling paint and the gray under is a primer.

The dealer also did the bottom paint and left the 1-2” around the transom plate clean, then went back and used the ant fouling paint for out drives on this area, merc said that should be removed even though it is not bottom paint.

The drive was cleaned up and repainted, the paint around the transom plate was removed. I’ll keep my eye on the drive and see if this comes back.

This is the second time I seen this happen the other was up in PA in fresh water. I am not understanding how they put this product out with the upcharge you have to pay.

I had my drives cleaned up and painted with antifouling paint recommended by the Sea Ray dealer. They rejected my suggestion of using Trilux 33 and put on something recommended at a recent dealer conference. They looked fantastic before hitting the water 4/23. Let's see how they hold up. So far, so good after 10 hours.
