Just wondering at what point this sea water pump housing would need replacing. Some scoring is acceptable but at what point does one need replacing? Thanks for your advice This is on my 2004 5.0 bravo 3 220 select

How do you fell about a rebuild kit such as this one? https://amarketparts.com/products/496the grooving on that cover plate is enough to require a replacement , it doesn't look like much but the surface area is large , the pump interior lasts longer but that grooving will affect suction as well. You can get an entire Stainless Steel assembly for about $300.00 The wear surfaces are harder and therefore last longer. The non ferrous pumps are very prone to this because of their lack of hardness , sand combined with wear or just the impeller ends wear this material out too quick. Mercruiser knows this and developed cover plates with Stainless steel wear plates on the more complex pumps to combat the wear . The entire pump replacement in stainless would be a good option for you and not break the bank.
