Sea Ray SSS 1993 63 ft

Rob - lovely fireworks - thanks god it was not from your engine room!

My baby boy was born 3 hours ago :) and all is well. 3.44 kg and 52cm - and eating like his mom. (Twice of what I eat) - despite my lovely wife is about 1/2 my size with a BMI of 17... While my boy was passing through the birth canal - our new 310DA was passing through the Suez canal:)

Congratulations kaz... on both fronts!

thanks :) he will hopefully be the 4th generation sailor in the family :) And he is the reason for our boat upgrade - so we can have more shade and AC in the heat here - where it gets up to 122 deg hot and water gets to 95.. We loved our 210 Select - but it is not baby friendly in this part of the world. :)

Kaz: so many congratulations on the birth of your baby!!! What an amazing day for you!! They say the first few days are really something, how are you and your wife doing ?
I have looked for your baby #2 passing through the suez canal but it just says out of range like every other time I have looked. Have not had much luck tracking your cargo ship!
Seeing as it was in the suez canal when you wrote it is not too far from you at all by now!
How much excitement can someone have in one month lol
Again congratulations on the birth of your child Kaz! I am
Sending you a digital cigar as per tradition :)

Paul: umm been sitting here thinking how could you plug into someone else's shore power? Also shore power cables bring the power onto the boat not send it out. Not sure I get how that would work?

Repairs are coming along. Slowly but coming along. Thought I had the generator problem
Diagnosed but turns out I was wrong.
The fuel lift pump is fine it's simply
Not getting power. Power goes out from the solenoid but is not arriving a few inches away at the pump. So checking all kinds of things right now pulling apart sensors and wire harnesses. Annoying!

Congratulations Kaz!

Rob, what I meant with the shorepower is to plug your lead into a power point on another boat whilst their generator is running. Our Princess has a 15amp power point that could be used to connect another boat's shore power lead - should be ok for the battery charger but I wouldn't go running A/C and water heaters etc.

Good luck with fixing up the generator! Hopefully nothing too painful.

PS. Hope you're not out in the wind today - we've had a pretty wild August this year!

Paul

Paul: what are you doing Saturday ?? Met some great boat people last week they have a 47 halverson and they are having a costume party on their boat in DH starting around 7 we are going with both our boats around 2 -3 the guests arrive at 7. It's byo drinks but all food is provided about 30-40 people are coming and as they said more the merrier really fun crowd any chance you feel like coming with or without your boat?? Will be a good time really fun people!

No luck on the gen there is a disconnect in power to the pump and can't find it. Working on it will figure it out eventually haha

Oh and yeah that wind was absolutely insane caused chaos in rozelle bay. It was such a hot day for this time of year so the hot and cold mixed making crazy winds. Caused some pretty bad damage around where I am berthed was craaaaazzseeee

Thank you very much. Digital Cigars are the best...

We got back from the hospital today. Tired but happy and he is an amazing little guy. :) My wife is doing fine - she is a tough one - so we (she) did it without any Epidural or other pain killers. So doctor was a bit speechless. But it meant our little Theodore was amazingly alert from the second after he came out. And tomorrow is our wedding anniversary - so a lot to celebrate. And I'm picking up In Laws at Dubai Airport at midnight. They just jumped on the first plane they could get. :)

And yes boat is on its way. 7 full days of sailing left - plus what ever stops they make on the way (I guess Jedda, Muscat, Dubai - and then Abu Dhabi) And I can track it again a bit after Muscat. So ETA anywhere between the 3rd and 7th of September. :)

But now back to some work and some day-trading.... I have to support this family....

Kaz: just looked for your boat on marine traffic. All it had was last time it reported in as it was out of range again! Attaching a snapshot of its last known location! Your wife sounds very brave and tough to go at child birth with no help!! I'm sure it's so much healthier for the baby! Good on her she sounds awesome :)

At darling harbor again had a big costume party last night so nothing but hung over people lying down all over the place recovering. There are some definate perks to not being a big drinker I feel great today lol only had three beers! Anyways took a snap of my boat looks pretty cool from this angle although spotted some fender marks I must clean lol

Oh and ended up getting an app for my iPhone that is an ais transceiver receiver. I know Internet ais is not that accurate etc but got it for fun was ten bucks expensive as far as apps go!. Had to get myself a us mmsi number as its a big process to get an Australian one. The cool thing about it all when you look on sites like marine traffic.com I show up now like a ship if I'm out and the app is enabled. Put in Le cabaret and there I am way cool useless but cool lol

I am a lucky man with such a wife. And our baby seems well behaved so far. :) We are still tired and have loads of paperwork to do to get him passport, visa, medical coverage and so so so on... But we are getting there.

Tracking - yes - after the Suez there is no tracking before it comes round the northern edge at Musandam. After which it will be 2-3 days before she is in Abu Dhabi. Then customs - then registration - then anti fouling - then redo Radar Arch and everything else removed for transport - then install "local transponder" - then go through security check for sailing permission - and then ... we can take her home. :)

My dad (the boatbuilder) is arriving on the 18th Sept. to inspect both new additions to the family :) - normally he would NOT leave Denmark before the end of the sailing season (November 1st) - but I guess this year is an exception.

And yes - your boat looks great. :)

KaZ: you are indeed a lucky man :) Its nice to see someone who thinks the world of their wife!! Most of my friends that are married are usually winging about their wives not praising them lol

I'm sure your child coming into the world is way more important to your dad than sailing season! Is he a first time grandpa?
Quite a process you have to go through yet once you boat gets there!! Sounds like it arrives in a week but you will get it in a month. Although it seemed like a lengthy difficult process for my arrival but it went quite easy and all was done within two days!!

Was a fun party last night at darling harbor. Costume party and 6 boats attended we all were next to each other in a row and the party raged on until 10 am this morning! I bowed out at like 4 went down into my boat to find half the salon covered in vomit from my cousins boyfriend. Well she spent the next hour cleaning and I did not help lol
Great group I am now friends with about six boats of all different sizes always doing things together. Next week in is a raft up in bantry bay in middle harbor. I know it sound like kids a party raging until 10 am but all adults in their late 30s 40s and 50s but very fun people. Australians like their fun !
Fair share of boat dramas from broken down boats to toilets clogged by girls throwing the wrong things in there to bilges full of oil from broken shaft lubricant seals! Luckily apart from the mess my boat was spared !
Ian, paul, Ozzie this a bit of a boat club around 7 boats now with mine that get together just about every week end it's kind of neat and super nice people. Let me know if you guys would ever like to join the fun !

Rob, your new gang could be called the " The Vomitos" lol. Lost count of how many of your members have decided to puke on your boat amongst other things.. I think Ill stay upwind and far enough away from any damage

Anyway, rob sounds like you are enjoying life

Ozzie

Ozzie: haha the vomitos well it was not my new found boat friends that did any vomiting or anything else unpleasant but my cousins boyfriend. So my new friends actually are very well behaved and really good people :) a group of several boaters that get together on a regular basis. From 20 " boats to I think 45 being the largest. Just fun happy people that instantly put you in a good mood :)
I made my cousin pay the price and clean the floor for a good hour!! I just don't get why some people will drink until that extent where it makes them
Sick! What is the fun in that at the moment and the next day!! I will have a beer or two but I'm done way way before I can't walk straight! I told her she is not bringing that chap on my boat again! Luckily I had the carpet protector down so that's all that got another stain!
That thing has to go anyways so many stains on it I just imagine if I did not have it my carpet would be wrecked completely. Want to replace half of it with wood anyways! Don't think there is anyway of getting around people spilling things near the galley sink and fridge of If make it wood it will be an easy clean up!
Lots of work ahead of me this week. Bottom cleaning boat waxing fix the generator as that's still not done put in underwater lights have had them for a month now so just a ton to do!!

Rob,

Looks like you had a good weekend! I got out to America Bay for Saturday night - was good to head out for a relaxing night! I'll let you know next time I'm heading to DH so we can catch up.. I'll definitely be there for Harbourlife 1/12/12.

Have you managed to figure out the genset yet? At least you're learning alot with all this problem solving.Pa

Ozzie,

How are you enjoying having your boat berthed at Church Point? Really nice marina!

Paul

Hi Paul,

we are really enjoying our time there. Also, we seem to head out less just hang at the marina..people next to us are always having drinks. I think as the weather gets warmer there will be far more parties..so may just use the boat to sleep aboard...

For your info..we had all our teak sanded and coated ( swim platform, cockpit, steps and chain lockers) $650..looks like new again.

Not sure when heading down to the harbour next..might do a trip in October and stay at DH..and Join the Vomitos and be initiated a "Gringo"

Ozzie

Paul: genset is not quite done yet took a whole lot of testing and wire chasing but think I finally have the problem what I thought it was right in the beginning the fuel lift pump. But I ventured off of it as I found a break in the power coming out of a solenoid. Anyways long story but think its a pump which I am ordering tomorrow.
You are right I am learning a whole ton with everything I install and fix I get that much better all around working on stuff. Today was kind of nerve racking as I drilled holes in my transom for the underwater light wiring I so did not want to do that but it's done now :)

Ozzie: thanks for the awesome new nickname lol I have never once vomited on my boat hahha I put a stop to te crazys I had in the beginning now my cousin goes and does it. I can't win lol
Got any pictures of all the work you just had done?? I don't blame you for not coming down to DH with how expensive it is to run down from up there! Plus with your new completely awesome dock situation all you need is fireworks and your berth is just as good :)

Well I put in the first of my 6 underwater lights and just rigged it direct to a battery quick smart for a test. Looks pretty damn good I can only imagine how awesome it will look with the six down there. I have built brackets for the lights ian gave me so I can attach them just waiting for the sikaflex to dry so I can install.
The one in the pics you guys see here is an 18 dollar underwater spotlight and it glows just about as good and almost as bright as the ones you get for 600 lol dunno how long it will last but who cares once the wiring is set just throw a new one on. I am just clamping the four I got like that to the trim tab. So yeah I have figured out a way to have all the water glowing behind a boat for a mere 80 bucks lol. So if there is anyone out there that has not put in the lights because of money shoot me a pm and I will send the link to the spotlights and instructions how to attach them to your trim tabs. So yeah no haul out no 600 bucks for the lights dead simple to do well apart from drilling holes in your transom didn't like that part but got the go ahead from sea ray for that exact spot.
Usually you pay 100s for these lights then also have to haul the damned boat!! It's pretty cool :) not sure how long these spots will last we will see!

So tomorrow is run all the wiring put in a new switch for it and install all six. Excited to see how it all looks tomorrow night! So I have four spots like the one in the picture and two proper strip led lights that ian sent me should make the water glow damned good!!
So yeah anyone that wants to know how to get underwater lights for just 80 bucks just pm me :)

So fuel lift pump arrived today just putting it in now if all goes well gen will be back online tonight :)

As for the underwater lighting finally finished putting the brackets on the strip lighting. Used sikaflex to bond two pieces of plastic on each one with hole drilled in them. Then used tarzans glue super strong stuff to bond the brackets into the holes I drilled in the plastic. It already was in really good and super tight just using the glue as backup.
On top of each trim tab is a steel t section which runs the length of it these brackets will be bolted onto that. Used a hand drill to drill the holes since its underwater.
The four spots are all clamped in place already so just have to wait ten hours for the glue to dry and they go in place.
The new circuit is already run and fused these lights will run off my bow thruster bank. The switch is wired in and in place. So yeah once the glue drys I will have my underwater lighting all set yeeeeehaw!!!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1346415092.945574.jpg

Was very challenging figuring out how to attach lights underwater without hauling the boat!! Even the trim tab ones you buy all say the boat still has to be hauled because of hole drilling etc. they were wrong hahah

Generator is fixed installed the new fuel lift pump. Primed and bled the system pushed the button and she started right up :)

I think I can officially call myself a real mariner now!! I can safely berth this big boat in and conditions or spots! I can install complicated lighting and make my own circuits safely fused.
I can diagnose and fix things like generators without any help from
Mechanics. Have worked on my steering my hydraulic throttles. Have fixed at least some part of just about every system on this boat!

Tomorrow is finally just dump the lights in once the glue
Is fully cured. Just got the pressure switch I needed for the horn in the mail so my boat will finally have a Horn tomorrow! Boats are never ending work but you sure end up a much handier person! Sure you can hire people to fix all the problems but then you would learn nothing and what's the fun in that :)
