Oldskool: Have no idea how and where you would submit that and what calendar??
Ozzie: lol yeah tie a bucket up under the hatch and you have your toilet for the night hahahhaha ...dunno how that would do for unpleaseant scents at night lol you could actually get 2 tents up there easily but the second one would not have the sunpad .... it worked great the two people that stayed up there said it was plenty warm from the heating and really nice... they prefered it to staying in the boat lol ...pretty cool could fit 4 in one of those tents...its an extra 8 person capacity hahahah

CSR asks for pictures to be submitted every year and after membership votes for their favorites they produce nice calendars that they sell to us. Do a search and you should find some threads...

So another long tiring wild yet fun week end OVER ending on tuesday eve lol!
Started off with picking up 12 people from different wharfs all over sydney harbor, after an hour or two of cruising and taking in the sites we made our way to darling harbor a sheltered night club and restaurant district right on the water.. They have a public wharf there where many large boats go on the week ends at 25$ for 4 hours its a great cheap night out! Parties rage on on all the boats and people jump from boat to boat meeting others and having fun ...when you are ready for something different Sydneys restaurants and night life is litterally 2 minutes walk away... So was a whacky night all the girls had too much to drink and got minorly insane spent half the night ducking a football being thrown at my head or being rugby tackled by some drunken female maniac...funny all the guys were pretty well behaved it was the crazy girls that were out of control! I got them all back with two old circus games!!
The finger game where you blind fold people one at a time and take them inside lock everyone else out.... you make the put out their index finger and touch things to guess what they are, the last part you put some vaseline on the bicep side of your elbow make a muscle and push thier finger in there it feels like it went into some wet tight nasty hole... you pull the blind fold off and in front of them a guy is stepping away pulling his pants up so they think they stuck their finger up his bum... works great on drunk chicks ...hahhah they scream and freak out then wash thier fingers quickly some cry lol ....you make them stay in the room to see the next one and then they realize its just a joke!! people outside get aprehensive as they hear all the screams...its very funny lol i know i know a little unrefined but good fun :) Then got them with the spoon game which you end up whacking them over the head with a frying pan long story lol but it is gently of course... basicly you play a game where two people sit opposite each other hands on their knees and a spoon in thier mouth.. one person bends their head down watches the hand of the other while the person whos turn it is has to hit the other on the head with the spoon in thier mouth....well everyone crowds around and someone stands behind the victim and bonks em on the head with first a spoon then other objects... the victim can see her opponents hands on his knees so doesnt think hes cheating by using his hands and especially if they are drunk takes awhile to figure out whats going on...can be quite funny as you can use all kinds of objects..some make a sound and its even more funny if they dont figure it out ...the key is to be gentle and not bonk em too hard lol ...so it was a fun night of getting revenge on crazy drunken girls...about half the boats passengers left around 2 am and we peeled out for my favorite spot on the swing mooring at Taronga zoo...all the moorings had boats on them so went and found a police mooring in a bay not too far away ...about 8 people stayed the night .... some eating a little more fishing and then to bed....the next morning we swung around the harbor to a little cove that has a beach went ashore, played on the beach, fished ..sunbathed etc until around 5pm where i became the official water taxi again with the jet ferrying everyone home to different docks.... everyone left so it was just me alone at taronga for the night! Was really nice actually to be out there alone :)
Thinking i was going to head in on monday, i was about to pull up the lines when i got a call from my uncle wanting to go fishing so what the heck another night ...grabbed him in the jet from a bay about 15 mins away, got him out to the boat, then he wants to invite his kids my cousins... his daughter and her bf decide to come around 8pm ..... i take off in the jet for a ferry wharf in Balmian about a 20 min jetboat ride away under the harbor bridge .... the jet has a 3 person capacity but its tight, well they have 6 bags, 2 cases of beer and 5 fishing rods for one night geez!!! Great, somehow we pile it all in ..my cousin is laying on top of stuff in the front!! both my cousin and bf are petty heavy people so the poor lil mini cabaret can barely go faster than 8 mph ..the harbor is rough and choppy as we putted across ..well of course the water police stop us because it looked unsafe and i forgot to put my lights on!! well they let us go saying they will send a unit out to the big boat to check out all my paperwork...they never came!
So another night of fishing, didnt catch one fish...my poor uncle was soo disappointed he even brought flower and herbs out to cook the fish!
Plan was 7 am departure as everyone had to be somewhere, cousins at work, me at docs, uncle at ato australian version of taxation office! well we all slept right in, the whole boat woke up at 11:30 lol so we all missed everything! said stuff it and hung out and fished all day hahah
finally home at 7pm, finished shuttling everyone back to docks! exhausted!!! another boat outing done and dusted!!

Oh and thank you Ozie paul and Humph for the info you posted last week, was of a great help :)

i was all nervous here as was trying to find a swing mooring in the dark at low tide ..was tricky... you can see it in my face was like leave me the hell alone hahahah Its hard when you are the only sober one! I refuse to drink one drop when i am captaining the boat!

The finger game is a riot!

BTW
It's ok to say no to people if you need a little time to yourself. It sounds like you are the host of hosts. Don't forget to take some time for yourself.

ozzie: paul i need to get new updated tv sets for my boat. Since i am not having the boat converted to Australian power as the atlas system just converts the aussie power to the voltage the boat needs i guess i am going to order the tv sets and dvd sets, ply station xbox etc all from the USA ....i know i should have done this there lol Am i right that now the tv stations over here have all gone digital and are no longer analog?? Also is Australia on Pal ??? I cant remember if its ntsc like the states or Pal like Europe?? Or maybe i should buy tvs here and just get a coverter plug to work on the boats power system lol not sure what would you guys do?? Also i have a glomax antenna on top of the boat, but seeing as its 1999 would guess it recieves an analog signal ...i dunno do you need a special antenna for digital or is the signal recieved the same does anyone know?

So my port engine seems to have a kind of dark smoke, its not much just a little but it is always there. What does a darkish color exhaust mean? I know a light white or blueish smoke is usually bruning oil?? I also noticed a few times there seems to be some sort of oil discharge through the exhaust ..only noticed it once or twice and it was very light and only for a few seconds...is this normal or should i be worried?

The rocker switches that are supposed to shut down my engines do not shut them down... it starts them but wont turn them off.... neither do the ignition keys, kinda weird...so i have to use the emergency stop ... i have asked a few people if its bad for the engines shutting down that way but everyone has said no , so just double checking with you guys? Any ideas from anyone why my rocker switches and ignition keys would not shut down my engine, any ideas where i could start to look to diagnose this?

Does anyone ever have problems with their main sump pump getting stuck on and running continuesly until you shut it off but turning it off then on from the float switch? I changed the sump pump to a brand new one and it did the same thing, my guess is the float switch may be screwy but thats new as well?

How often should the oil be changed in these things, i mean drained and new oil put in? Is it best to fill it all the way up or leave a little room when you do so? Anyone got any hints on motor maintenance , like what should i check on a regular basis...racors and what else? i know these are basic questions that i could look up on the web , but would rather get the expert advice of my friends who know about all this stuff from experience sometimes the answers i get on the web are very vague and one places advice contradicts the others!

My Starboard engine was a little hard to start initially since i got the boat off the ship. But since it has all new fuel in it seems to start right up without any problems so my guess is the old fuel was in rough shape .... the question is since obviously my old fuel was in crappy condition would it be advisable to change the racor filters now as i guess they would get fouled from bad fuel? any other filters i should check and or change? Could the blackish exhaust from he port engine be a symptom of say fouled fuel filters or air filters? I want to do everything right and keep these engines in top shape, i would rather over maintain them then just do the normal amount, so if you guys could give me an idea what i should do right now if i kind of want to change and clean everything i can! what all is there for me to change, what other filters etc besides racors air and oil? Just trying to learn it all so i do things right! How often should impellers be checked and what is a sign or impeller problems?

Do bow thrusters require any kind of periodic maintenance?

What is a way to test if a solenoid is bad or not? I have a problem with the wired remote of my swim platform ... i tested the wired remote with a volt meter and it works fine ... followed the wires down and they are all good ...but when i push the up or down button nothing happens! if i jump power from the main power in wire to the terminal for up or down switch the platform works ... so would this be probable that the solenoid is bad?

i have some issues with the jetboat, i have a glass fuel filter on the main fuel line...if the boat sits it always seems to go empty ..isnt that always supposed to stay full .... what could cause it to empty like that? In order for me to start it i have to put some fuel into the carburetor through a plug in the top and she never seems to reach her maximum potential speed like as if shes fuel starved! what are the things that can cause a fuel problem? I have tightened all the fuel lines in case she is sucking air..... i have a feeling the fuel filter draining is an indication of what is wrong ... could that mean there is a leak in my fuel lines, if i could figure out the cause of that then i will probably figure it out!!! sometimes when im at three quarter throttle if i push it all the way up she dies ..so im guessing means its not getting enough fuel.... any ideas guys on what could be the cause of all of this?

Thanks guys any hints and tips on how to keep these boats in top shape mechanically and how to diagnose and fix my problems would be really appreciated!!

Australia is PAL so don't get an NTSC system you won't be able to watch tv..Check with JB Hifi as a lot of the tvs can do a variety of voltage.

My engines on my last boat took a bit of cranking during winter. The weather is warmer now and this is probably the reason why they start easier.

Also, it looks like I might be in Sydney Harbour this weekend and will be staying at the darlng harbour marina on Saturday night..

Hi Rob, does your boat smoke this bad www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfrqtZpkJGs
Someone else posted this a week or so ago. (giggle)
Black smoke is over fueling or unburnt diesel. Faulty injectors, pump timing or lower compression can cause this. Don't get worried cause as you know most trucks out there do it.
Good to see you are enjoying your boat, bring on summer!

Hey Rob, best to get a tv from Oz mate as the digital broadcast system is unique to Oz. We use a DVB-T system which is different to the USA and hence if you want to receive digital tv channels here you will need to have sa set that has a DVB-T tuner. Out analog broadcast system is scheduled to be switched off by the end of 2013 in order to free up the broadcast spectrum.

Ozzie: did you make it to darling harbor this week end?? If so how did it go, did you guys overnight and have a good time? I had a party on of about 25 people did middle harbor then ended up on the swing mooring at athol bay. A riviera similar to yours pulled up and spent the day there on Sunday , what was its name something starting with T, i tried calling on the VHF to see if it was you but got no reply. The riviera had a garage in the back and a small like 7 ft rigid inflatable tender, was very neat how the tender was stowed away like that :)

There is one mooring over there in Athol bay that does not have a rope, its the one closest to the little pier there. Works out good for me as even if the bay is full no one picks it up. I just put 2 of my own lines on it. So yeah if you ever go there and the bay is full of boats that swing mooring is usually available just for future reference for you :)

The raw water pump died on my generator. I make it a habit to check the gauges every 20 mins or so when its running and noticed it was pretty hot, checked the back and no water flow! Ordered a new one today from a company in Brisbane and it it will be here tomorrow by mid day what great service! will not be much fun installing it as its in a tricky location!! not so much tricky as to where it is on the generator but tricky because the hot water heater is right behind the gen and its in the back of the generator!! Just glad i caught it before it overheated too much! Its a big gen so pretty expensive, that would have really sucked!

The party on the boat became a little too crazy, i had to throw one guy off the boat because he was running around trying to get the girls drunk and sleep with them. The last straw was when i saw him lifting a girl across the boat and slamming her into the radar arch with her pushing him away. I later heard stories of him trying to kiss one while putting his hands on the others thigh, then right after asking another to see her boobs..peeing off the back of the boat onto my swim platform and turning around and showing girls his goods! what a bloody idot!. so he was gone put him right off the boat! Don't even know the guy! At one point i heard someone calling my name over and over, i thought they were just being stupid as people were calling me over and saying look rob dancing around with a life jacket on their head stuff like that so i thought she was just like sitting in the jet saying look at me or something dumb like that...i ignored it for like a minute as the calls rob rob rob kept coming went and looked off the back and a girl was hanging off the swim platform at the back , fell in the water and couldn't climb back in.. Kind of crazy people could drown so again learning my lessons here and will monitor people more closely and not allow people to go crazy on drinking on the boat too dangerous and too many problems! i don't drink at all so end up being a bit of a baby sitter! These are not young kids but people in their 30's, i will put an end to people drinking too much on the boat will watch everyone and just warn people if they have too many that they will be put ashore,...yeah a few drinks and have some fun but getting completely plastered is a no go onboard!

Saturday was so tricky to navigate the harbor, had to be 400 sail boats out there! they have the right of way and tack and turn all of a sudden was like an obstacle course to get across! what a challenge that was! So getting good at captaining this thing, i didn't stress just navigated my way across. If ozzie came down Saturday I'm sure he went through the same thing as it was all day Saturday, nice sunny day but the winds were up so the sailors came out!

No pictures this week end as i was just too busy, no other boat people on board and the guests were drinking so it was all on me. This boat is a little large for a one man operation but i managed without incident. Just teaching my best friend who's always along the ropes now so i have some help out there on these trips. having a deck hand along who can assist is pretty important otherwise picking up moorings docking etc is very tricky jumping from the helm and doing it yourself! Have managed to anchor, pickup and leave swing moorings, dock etc all by myself many times now but it can get quite stressful!

A few months back several people had asked that i keep updating everyone on my adventures hence the posts, some others mentioned that I should take all of this off CSR to my own blog. If this all is kind of out of place or not really how things are done on CSR please let me know and I will take these kind of posts off to a blog. I have brought you guys along for my whole journey and enjoy updating here on whats going on with the boat. Hope to have many more interesting adventures in the future and will keep updating here if people are still interested in my crazy boating life :)

Cheers
Rob

Keep the stories comming rob is a wonderful read my friend!!! Csr is a better place with this thread IMO......

If you haven't figured it out yet you soon will. Your guests will very rarely respect your vessel as much as you do. That being said- The party stories are worthless without pics!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

pyro: will do my friend as long as there is a demand for it

Doug: That pic was back from i think my first outing with the boat wanted to post some pics so threw that one up lol ...its all gone long time now and all the railings have been polished with stainless steel goop :)

Bigisland: You are right about both your points, no people do not respect my boat like me which has pissed me off pretty badly a few times! The boat has white berber carpet, i have a protector that i goes over all the carpet made out of white canvas that i keep down when large groups of people are onboard. It was white and spotless when i got here, now its covered in stains and looks grubby won't even wash clean with bleach, so can only imagine what my carpet would look like now without it!! And yes whats that saying a picture is worth a thousand words !! So just for you i went and scoured my friends Facebook pages and managed to scrounge up a few from darling harbor, a couple from one of our night after beach days with who stayed aboard and a few of the girls... best i could do for now but will start snapping away more avidly, maybe some video and capture some of the funnier moments like the finger game what a riot :)

Cop: hahahha Australia is pretty well know for their love of fun and partying a little too hard!!

pics away!

one of the girls enjoying the ride, she was such a nut later that night after a drink or two ...we were doing pickups at the time for darling harbor she was one of the first aboard.

Nutty jet boat excursion in the middle of the night from darling harbor, they tried to talk me into going under a big docked catamaran, was tempting but i declined with fears of decapitation from a bar that hung down towards the back lol

Keep it coming Rob....love it!

Rob, before you tear apart your pump check your strainer and through hull to make sure water is getting to the pump. Happened to me twice this weekend with seaweed clogging them.

Humph: thank you very much for the advice :) I am a meticulous sea strainer checker! Especially where the boat is berthed the tides get pretty low and it's a swampy muddy bottom! In fact I won't even run any systems at low tide since I end up with only having about four ft clearance from the bottom and saw just how plugged up my sea strainers were getting!

That pump was on it's way out! It was leaking water pretty badly! I applied an anti rust treatment to all the gen parts that were getting wet and a day or so later it just stopped leaking. If you know how those gen pumps are there is a shaft that goes up to the impeller which has like air vents water was squirting out of there and starting to rust things. Well it worked great for a whole day with no leaks I was like that's strange lol then all of a sudden bam stopped working hahah

Talk about great service ordered the part from marine energy systems in Brisbane a city pretty far from here about 2 pm and it got here 9 am next morn!!

Now just to see if I can install it hahha wish me luck!
