Sea Ray SSS 1993 63 ft

This compliance thing is causing a lot of grieve for those that are importing private boats. Electrical wiring has to be to Australian Standards for example. This issue came in early this year and was mentioned to me when I purchased my latest boat. Maybe, what you could do is contact Sea Ray and ask if they could send you a compliance plate for your boat that matches the requirements they attach to the boats they export to Australia.

Ozzie

ozzie: Contacted Sea rAy to see if they can help me out ...i didnt know anything about wiring compliances??? Would you be able to direct me to a website that might give me details on that??? Great i hope im up to whatever code, man this is a complicated process... looks like the boat is going to be delayed awhile...kinda sucks wanted to ut it in the Sydney Boat Show ...damn ok ..well next one!! been doing a lot of reserach on pittwater ...beautiful up there!! I have a feeling i will be hanging out up that way alot .... when ever you feel like spending some time on the water just give me a buzz and i can come grab you in the jetboat lol ..... Is there any yamaha jetski dealers here where i could find some parts for my tender??? Need a new ignition coil..te spark is really weak!!

Does anyone know whats going on in the P Canal??? I have done web searches and came up with nothing.... Paul is right the boats even the ones in the canal are simply not moving...really weird!!

After reading this builders plate
http://www.nmsc.gov.au/recreational_boating/index.php?MID=24&CID=24

maybe I was misled about the electrical wiring situation so I take that back..
I recall my boat being stuck in Panama I think they take this into consideration when heading this way. You can always check the cams they have a few for viewing ship movement

Ozzie

I have been watching the webcams for the last couple of days Ozzie but there has been little traffic going through. I wonder if they have experienced heavy rainfall like last December when they had to close the canal for a day.

This is from a mariner's notice from the Canal Authority and may be the problem:

Beginning Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at 0700 hours through Friday, June 24, 2011, at 2100 hours, the centerwall culvert at Gatun Locks will be out of service for the rehabilitation of rising stem valves, replacement of cylindrical valves, and other maintenance work. Although both lanes will remain in service, a single culvert will be provided during filling and spilling operations and consequently all lockages at Gatun will take longer than usual. In preparation for this outage, the East lane at Gatun locks will be closed for 10 hours, from approximately 2000 hours Sunday, June 12 to 0600 hours Monday, June 13, and the West lane will be closed from approximately 2000 hours Monday, June 13 to 0600 hours Tuesday, June 14, 2011.

In addition, from 2000 hours Friday, June 17, 2011, to 0400 hours Thursday, June 23, the
East lane at Miraflores Locks will be closed for miter gate maintenance work. Prior to the beginning of this lane outage, starting at approximately 2200 hours on Thursday, June 16, a six hour outage will be necessary for the removal of Miter Gate 108.

Alnav: Thanks again for te info!! You rock!!

Paul: yes yes yes, she is finally underway i may just get my boat by the end of July!!! So excited have so much planned and just cant wait for it to get here!!!! Fly California fly lol

Ozzie: have contacted sea ray about the ABP, no reply yet.... will call the Australian office tomorrow... its all slowly coming together...hopefully in 30 days or so i will be sitting on a swing mooring in Pittwater with you and Paul sharing a celebratory drink lol fingers crossed no more delays...fly California fly!!!! Bring my baby home!

You know how i told you guys my cousin works in the marine industry here in Sydney and is a captain and runs a maritime construction/salvage yard...he invited me to go on a salvage operation tomorow morn ...but 8 am is just too early for me still being all jetlagged!! Apparently a sailboat sunk between point Piper and shark island.... they have been out once already before but could not locate it and the authorities want it retrieved.. apparently the vessel went down with its sail up so they think the current probably has carried it somewhere.... we were using the navionics app to see which direction and at what aprpox speed the current flows in that area to make an educated guess where the boat may be down there .... they are not using very sophisticated equipment to find it.... just a fish finder i think lol .... apparently if they find it they will float it and retrieve the boat ... the authorities are worried it may be hazardous to other boats so they want it out...The approx location it went down is 33.861658 S 151.257621 E .... thought you guys would find this interesting and if you have any ideas where it might have drifted off to let me know :) WIth the sail up my guess is the current would have a lot of fun with it down there and the fact remains is it could be a pretty bad hazard if it got into shallow enough waters where a boat on the surface may hit it or get its lines tangled in the props! It went down in approx 10 M water "30 ft" but there are shallows nearby like Double Bay which is loaded with boats where it could potentailly end up! I will get more details about the boat size etc... i dont think its too big...around 26 ft something like that single mast..

I just missed it on the webcam as it is now in the third lock of the Gatun locks, hopefully I will catch down at the Centennial bridge cam.

Yes Paul she is on the way, exciting!!! The webcam of the Miraflores locks is really sharp so we should be able to get a good look at he when it passes through there!! I am glued to my computer waiting to see it pass through that area i am determined to grab a screen grab or two as she passes through ...hopefully will be able to actually see my boat yeeeehaw!!! the webcam im talking about http://www.pancanal.com/eng/photo/camera-java.html

Yes I am waiting to see it on the Centennial bridge webcam which it is coming up to very soon. She is really motoring through the canal. Well scratch that idea as it is too dark for the camera to be of any use so it looks like Miraflores Lock canera will be the better one. She is not too far off of it now anyway.

EDIT: You know what really sucks is when Java stops working and it takes a while for you to realise it. I totally missed the BBC California going through the lock. Grrrrrr bloody Java. Grrrrr!

Lol yeah that does suck hahah the centennial bridge is totally dark. Miraflores is closeup and clear the high res one in pop up window view. Sitting here waiting will grab several shots as it goes through. There is a ship in the lock now. The California sure is a fast cargo ship!!

Have a customs broker scheduled by yachtpath so will be paying gst etc soon just waiting on info. Have aqis scheduled. Just waiting on sea ray regarding my abp. Have the HIN boatcode agent scheduled so alls coming along well :)

So cool to watch the lock in action!! How they pump the water out and the ship goes down!! The ship sails out they pump all the water back in it's an A very neat process to watch and this webcam is very good. California should be up soon!!

Isn't technology crazy? Tracking your damn boat while sippin' on a beer in your living room? Nuts.

Doug

hahahah gotta love it Doug!! We have come a long way from the days of pong and Atari 2600's lol That was the last time I will see my boat on that side of the world, wont see it again until it hits New Castle Australia... more than likely the last time it is ever over in the Atlantic aswell... Although you never know i have heard stories of yachts crossing the world several times being sold to Australia then back to the states!

Just noticed the 58 Azimut that was sitting across from me at Pier 66 and then loaded on the California in front of me is no longer there.... I thought it was coming over here but looks like it got off in Wilmington DL ..... One funny thing if you look at the boat right in front of mine a little to the right... you have to look closely, its a 25 ft sailboat..... how is that even worth the cost of shipping to Australia??? Its like 1000 bucks per foot to ship then gst of 10% on the price of the boat and shipping cost + %5 if the boat is not made in the USA, then mandatory insurance and all the other fees associated with importing...quarantine etc .... i remember we were all talking about that during loading ...why would someone pay 28k + or possibly more for a boat that is more than likely not even worth that much to be shipped across the world... kinda strange... going to ask the owner about his boat when it gets to OZ :) Maybe it has sentimental value or something.

Or maybe it's full of illicit drugs!! LOL

Rob,
It really is freakin cool seeing your boat going through the canal. I still enjoy reading this thread when I have the time. Good stuff!!

Or maybe it's full of illicit drugs!! LOL

That was my first thought too, will be interesting to see who turn up at the dock when it arrives. Would not be the first time they have let a boat go all the way through in order to catch the people at the receiving end.

However depending on its age a newish 28 foot blow boat can still be close to $100K here as in this used model.

This thread keeps getting better and better. I never thought you could track a package through the canal let a lone a boat on a cargo ship. UNREAL!!

Paul: I dunno do you think someone would actually pay 100k for something like that ?? Seems kind of crazy to me lol although who am I to talk you all think I'm nuts hahaha.

Well if it is full of illicit drugs the owner is in for a real surprise in NewCastle lol no way in he'll he will get away with it haha

So the BBC California is out of range now so time to break out the magic we need to hack into a sattelite point it at the ship lol just dawned on me I should of got bloody spot turned it on and chucked it in a hatch on the helm then we would have had information the whole way! I am determined I will find a way to track her lol, there has to be a way!!

What are the big marine supply stores around here like West Marine in the states?? Need to do some pre emotive shopping !!

They still have not found that sailboat that sunk in Sydney harbor. They had a research vessel all lined up with special bottom scanning equipment but I guess the ins co did not want to pay the 9k a day it costs! So the crew is still out there searching with a fish finder lol doubt they will find it, the current has taken that boat on a rollercoaster ride somewhere lol

All studied up for my boaters license test this Sunday. I'm practically a marine encyclopedia now lol will definitely be a perk to be able to legally drive my own boat :p

Paul: Yachtpath is still giving an eta of July 21 st that is one fast cargo ship!
Have contacted many people regarding the Australian builders Plate no luck so far! Basically the most important thing on it for a large boat is passenger capacity. There is a plate up near my helm but it does not have passenger capacity on it damnit!!
