I have a 2006 sea ray sport 185 that has a plastic tank. The fuel line running from the tank has a bracket screwed directly into the tank with a metal screw! I bought this boat used, but to my knowledge, this is how the boat came from the factory.

Is there anything to worry about? Leaks? It seems pretty half-assed to drill a screw into a tank instead of using a strap or some sort of adhesive. Are other sports like this?

Your feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob

I have a customer with this model only a couple years newer. Most likely that screw is going into a threaded insert that sits in the plastic.

Correct. The insert is "blind", meaning the other end of the insert is closed. In other words, if you remove the screw the hole does not go all the way into the tank. In other (other) words, the tank was designed that way and it is a perfectly safe and normal way for a tank to be built. You may even notice that there is another, unused, threaded insert just a few inched away.
