My wife and I took a trip on the Cumberland & Tennessee Rivers last June and came across the Sea Ray plant on an island near Knoxville. This is a photo of the office building and docks. Click the link to see a brief log of the trip.

Looks like it is out of business.......Thanks for sharing the trip.....It goes to show you that it is not about size or luxeries in a boat.....You guys probably get more use and enjoyment out of your boat than most of the boats that dont leave the dock at my marina....good job......

Nice write-up! :smt038 It seems like it wsa a great trip-even with the weather issues. Was that the Vonore SR plant or one in Knoxville?

Really neat! Thanks for sharing...

It's the main Knoxville office docks. The plants docks are just around the corner before you get to the riverview plant. You have to watch out for duck droppings when you dock there (just ask me how I know.)

Jerry - let me get this straight - you spent 12 days and covered 1000 miles on the water, just you and your wife, camped out on your center console every night other than the night in the floating cabin? You didn't mention eating too much but did you dine out at all?

This is incredible! I have two zone air conditioning and satellite tv and my wife still complains. You married a true saint! Sounds like a fantastic trip.

Hey Ron,

This adds credence to the fact that: "we are all married to the same woman"! Well, maybe not in Jerry's case...

Jerry Hay the OP wrote my cruising guide for the Illinois Waterway and I beiieve some others. Interesting guy.

Very good read. Especially when you know the area somewhat. I was most surprised about your side trip up the Stones river. I have never seen a boat on that river.

Thanks for all the comments and yes my wife is an angel, but as you can see in the photo I provided her with all the creature comforts she could need. Warm fire, cozy tent with an air mattress, privacy curtain for potty and shower, kitchen on bow. What more could any woman want?

Love your blog.

I agree about the lockmasters sometimes being hard to get in touch with. The last time I went from Knoxville to Chattanooga when locking through watts barr, I called on the VHF - no answer, cell phone - no signal, ended up using the pull chain at the wall leading to the lock. I was concerned the lock may have been down for repairs or something. As I got closer to the lock I could hear my call on the VHF being broadcast loud and clear from the lock. Eventually a guy comes from somewhere on a golf cart to open the lock.

I am also glad to see someone doing river guides since the Fred Myers guide is no longer available. (Although it is available as a pdf on the cruise guide by Bob and Mavis Duthie.) When your guide is available I will definitely check them out. You can never have too much information.
