Sea Ray Navigator

We bought our 390 Motor Yacht (2004) last year in Florida and brought it to NY in May 2008. The Navigator works great and could not have done the trip without it. This was my first experience with any trip over 15 miles and the first time in a boat over 25 feet. We used the boat on Long Island all summer and had no trouble with it.
With the stories I am hearing is it worth getting a "spare" Navigator unit in case of a problem?

I had a lot of problems with my Navigator II that came with my 05 390DA Sundancer. I have it in combination with a Raymarine C120 that works perfectly. I am a computer engineer and I have had to repair the unit at least 3-4 times.
I just replced it with the new Navigator 312 with a solid state drive, 2 GB Ram and a larger screen with much higher resolution and a faster refresh rate. It came with all the cables needed to adapt it but I had to replace the dash due to the larger size of the opening.

So far I am very happy with the move.

The Navigator unit on my 05 390DA proved several people to either be genuises or fortune tellers. All told me it would crap out soon and not be worth repairing. Everyone of them was right. After a few months it was toast. Garmin touch screen now and loving it. Added an eyelet and some treble hooks and use it for my stern anchor now. :wow:

Removing the SRNavigator is my latest project. Thinking of replacing it with a "ST40" depth only repeater and linking it through the C70. Not sure if the transducer is currently going through a "black box" to read the depth on the SRNav. Have not been able to locate it if it does. Also will be checking compatiblity of the current transducer. Alot to make sure of!
