Gday AllI am having problems with my Baystar Steering on my 24 foot Laguna with twin 150 Mercury OB, we tried to bleed the system but still it is very hard to turn, my mechanic suspects the actuator. Here is the problem when I research the Baystar actuator specifications it says it is for use with Max 150 Hp engines, but my total combined is 300 hp, was the original laguna installed with the Baystar or Seastar actuator ?Thanks for your Help PeterHull Id SERF4180H495

I have the same boat with steering problems also. I have not started diagnosing it yet. Is yours hard to turn when not under power? That would be helpful to know. If so, it could be one of your engines is freezing up. It could also be a kink in the line. You can eliminate the latter by using a short piece of clear tubing to bypass the piston at the outboards. Take a small piece of clear tubing,. Open the bleeders on the piston at the transom, and attach the tubing to the bleeders. If it is still hard to turn then the problem is most likely forward of the transom, possibly a kink or the helm.

Gday Riptide
I have only recently purchased the boat from Long Island New York
then I shipped it to Brunei ,boat has not been in the water yet here.
I checked the steering before the purchase a little stiff at first and was a bit heavy,I tried it again when got back to Brunei
not the same very hard to turn, so we did a full bleed from the helm to the Actuator steering wheel was free and easy while bleeding.
My mech thinks it may be the actuator seals, but he is having problem removing actuator from the engine,
he is going to heat it up soon and try again later.
So it was during this process we discovered the Actuator was a Baystar which is only 100 psi output rather than a Seastar that has a 150 PSI output which does not seem right to me ,I wondered if any other people withe same boat have had this same problem ?
Thanks peter
