any input?

I had been wondering the same thing recently. I saw one on baltimore craigslist recently for $33k which sounded like a good price. I think it had the 6v92 detroits.

Anything your willing to share?
was thinking of looking at one, what are the differences in the years? any weak points?

thanks

I have an 88' 460 and I'll spill my guts, but I need a starting point. Too much to just blurt out, so to speak.

I have twin 6v92's that are awesome. I also have a westerbeke 12.5 btd generator that I though was awesome until two weeks a go when it fried the windings on start up. I just replaced the whole back end and now it's awesome again, lol.

I also had to replace the water tanks in the beginning of the season. These were all things I knew might need some repair.

There were too many plus's to walk away from this boat for me. spending a few days on our mooring is a little slice of heaven with this boat. We just got back from a 10day boat trip that was just plain awesome for us, because of this boat. Down below has a lot of room and perfect for living on for those long boating trips.

I did have to make a bar/grill for the cockpit over the winter. I can't believe they did not have a real bar there. Only some sliding panels for storage and an unusable sink.

The boat in general is a real nice boat, and we are ecstatic about it. just remember you get what you pay for boy's, buying one of these for 33K, and you'll be putting more then that into it, I would think. Not that it would not be worth it though.

So ask away!
Can't speak to differences other then there are two layouts. a single cabin and a double cabin. Google 460 EC Sea Ray and you'll find more then you know what to do with. I have the single cabin and love it.

Hey, I may just repower by boat. I did not know about "Super turbo" Cat's. Hmmm. Every thing is better with the word "super" in front.

I saw that Ad

its been for sale for over a year in the 30's

he is really trying to dump it now

its just a little to far from Long island

Here are a few questions
Fuel burn at trolling speeds, Cruising and WOT?
Estimated annual operating cost not including Fuel or slip fees or Beer?
Things you would change if you could?
thanks in advance for your thoughts

Sorry I missed this post ...

Well I can't tell you about trolling speed, I don't fish with this boat. But cursing speed is 20-22 mph, and roughly 26-28gph total at 18-1900 rpm. I would never run WOT so I can't say what the fuel consumption is. Fuel gauges that read back GPH cost roughly 3K per engine. I am sure others will say less, but that is the cost of just the equipment of the gauges I wanted, but will not spend that kind of money on.

I don't know how to speak to annual cost of operation without fuel, except here in NY, my yacht club is about 5K a year and the boat yard is 6K. Not sure that really helps you though. As far as slips go in other marinas ~4/ft is the going rate here in the north east. If you're asking what is the maintenance cost, I do all of that myself. That would include 15 gallons of shell rotella and fuel filters every year. Under $500 for that. Hoses and raw water pump as needed.

So here is the real question, what would I change? So the person before made the helm all flat and new burl formice, so that new GPS's could be installed. Two 4212's and all new gauges, wiring. Updated Autopilot, VHF etc. Satellite TV was also installed. What I got with the boat is awesome.

What I am changing: I added a bar/sink/BBQ combo for the upper deck which also has a tv on a mount above it. Down below I am in the process of removing the carpet and putting in a teak floor. I am having the dinette and sofa re-covered in naugahide. The galley is going to have a new sink and cooktop with corian counter top. The previous owner already re-did the head liner and installed all new puck lights. The dinette table is going to be a custom mahogany table instead of that formica thing it came with.

The generator that came with the boat is a 12kw Westerbeke, it's a four cylinder diesel, runs like a champ with only 3K hours on it. The engines are in great shape according to the survey I had done, so I am only doing routine maintenance on them. I did put in dripless shaft seals, and led lighting in the bilge.

All in all I got this boat for a fantastic price and it is well worth the money I am putting into it. We traveled all over this summer and had an awesome time with her. My wife and I are so glad we decided to go this route! No boat payment and when we're done it will be brand new! One word of advice, an older boat like this is not for the faint of heart, you will have things that break and you will have repairs. One I had this year which I didn't see coming was the water tanks needed replacement, but I got through it and now there new, scratch that off of the list.

I hope this helps.

Orlando that was a nice post. I was on a 460 DA late this summer and was really impressed. That is one well thought out boat. Sea Ray got it right. JC
