Hello,
I have a general question. I am about to close on a 2007 Sea Ray Sundancer 380 with 75 hours on her. The boat is still under Sea Ray warrantee. (The boat has 8.1 Merc's with V Drive.) The owner informed me after about 50 hours the port side prop shaft snapped at the prop. Sea Ray replaced both props and prop shafts and changed the pitch of the props. Has anyone experienced any issues or aware of prop shaft issues with newer (2006- 2009) 8.1 Sundancers with V Drive?

Thank you.

We have a 2008 38DA (made in Nov 2007) with same setup, no issues with props or shafts.

I don't specifically remember any issues with 38 sundancers, but there have been shaft breaks on several different models. I don't think any year or model is immune, but some may be more prone. From what I have learned (on this site mostly), it can be an engine alignment issue, an issue with the incorrect installation of the prop, (regarding the key), or a metalurgy problem. There are many threads here referencing this.
I would be interested in knowing what they changed the prop pitch from and to, as the 38 and the 360 are very similar hulls, and on the recommendation of Prop Scan USA, we just put another inch of pitch on ours.
If you haven't yet, and it's not too late, get a surveyor involved, . If the repairs were made at a good shop, all should be good, but I would want a little more piece of mind. Here's a thread to get you started.
Good luck, and welcome aboard

I just had this happen to me at 125 hrs. Port prop lost, shreared off the end of the shaft.

The shafts were made to hard 06 and 07 shered a lot of shafts.
