Hey guys..Im new here so bear with me.

Im in the market for a used boat. This will be my first boat so im pretty excited.

I found a 2004 270 sundeck w 110 hrs on it. It is equipped w the 6.2 merc.

Any opinions on this boat ?? Pros cons?

I have a family or 6 including me, the wife and 4 little ones..

Asking price from a private owner is 38k

That's a terrific price for a used 270SD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 270SD is an excellent boat and I would have loved to had one when I owned my 240SD. Both the 240SD and the 270SD are very similar in design but I like the 270 better. I am not sure how it runs with a 6.2 motor but the 6.2 is probably adequate. And the boat is an ideal size for your family as well.

With only 110 hours, it's like buying a brand new boat. If you like it then make an offer contingent on a survey. If nothing serious shows up when the surveyor looks at it, you have probably "stolen" the boat at $38K.

Good luck.

Dave

I agree with Dave. I have a 240 and we love it. I would just make sure that it has enough "oomph" for you with that engine - it probably does - I just mention it, since I haven't test driven one. The sundecks are great boats. Lots fun, great way to take your friends out for the day and have a blast! Let us know how it works out.

I had one and have no complaints. I don't know about the 6.2, make sure to water test to make sure it satisfies you. How do you plan to use it?

I plan on driving around the back bays here on Long Island..tubing..anchoring up at some beaches..a little bit of light family fishing...

There is another similar boat here for sale that has a bigger engine.

I did go out in the boat with the seller and it seemed to have plenty of power but we did have a light load..

How much does your boat weigh?? Which engine does it have?

I believe that the 270 weights in around 6000lbs..

Ours is 4700 pounds (dry weight). We have the 5.0L Merc - 260 hp. We like the power on it just fine - good for tubing, etc.

IMHO the 38K sounds like a good starting price. Sounds like you have already got some great advice about offer with "contingent on a survey". I would also make it "contingent of sea trail with full load" just to make sure the engine will work for you. It does not take long to add weight to a boat. That 6000lbs is dry weight, just wait when you start filling it up with gas, water, stuff(Skies, tools, blenders, ice chest, 4 anchors, anchor chain, etc) people. (Grin) I would tell you if you think it mainly is going to be 6 people on the boat test it with 10 people because as the kids grow they are going to bring their friends.

Definitly get a survey like others have said with the low hours and being that old I would wonder what kind of maint. has been done on it. You'll probably be replacing bellows, impeller, etc.

What options are on it? I bought an 04 270 last December with 22 hrs, wakeboard tower, bow thruster, 496 mag 375 hp, vacuflush head, two tone paint and upgraded stereo. I paid 51,5.
If it has a tower the bimini sucks. I had mine modified to cover the entire cockpit.
The boat is terrible for wakeboarding as it is big and heavy. For tubing or general fun it is a great boat.
The room on board is awesome, it measures almost identical to a 240 in length but the extra width seems like 3' instead of 6".

Great price on that boat, sounds too good!
The 6.2 might be a little short for a big family. My 496 with 6-8 people does 45MPH.
Awsom boat for a family , alittle shallow on the freeboard for the ocean

".

I have a 260SD with the wake tower, and while I agree that the Bimini isn't ideal, I certianly wouldn't say that the boat is terrible for wakeboarding. My 260SD with 496MAG pulls two Wakeboarders easily, and they enjoy the additional wake size because of the weight of the boat. I am fairly sure that most wakeboarders want a larger wake, rather than a smaller one...... Just my 2cents
