Hi guys this is my first post please be gentle. I will be soon taking possession of a 2008 Sea Ray 185 sports My questions are as follows:

I need to obtain the of the Extreme Graphics for both sides (sea ray part number 1803287) or even better the complete decal kit with the rear decals as well sea ray part number 1803061). They cost heaps over is Oz. Any one know the cheapest place to purchase from in the states as the dollar is okay now or where I can get them made up.

Second question..... I only have the standard seats but can get hold of a set of seats with the flip up bolster. Only problem is the other seats have different coloured upholstery. I was wondering if the seats are the same and the bolster is just an add on and if so could I get the bolster retrimmed in the same colour fabric as the seat and simply connect it up.

Third qn. As the history is unknown what should I do when it arrives. It only has 16 hrs on the 3.0lt. I have no idea of winterization that you guys do over there or what I should do to prepare it for its first voyage. Any maintenance tips or advice would be appreciated.

Fourth Qn.. I dont mind a spot of fishing. I note there is no factory rod holders...? Has anyone got any suggestions as to which ones to buy or where to mount them. Does this compromise the hull integrity if they are flush mounted etc???Oh I will be fitting a wake tower in the near future if that is an option.

Fifth Qn.. Is the warranty transferrable to me from US to OZ??

Oh I will also have a couple of sets of Shorelandr trailer lights that are no use to me as they do not comply with our design rules if anyone is interested in them.

Thanks in advance

First, welcome aboard!

1) You could try Flounder Pounder Marine - but they usually don't have stuff until a boat is a quite a few years old. But, it's probably worthwhile to at least check. If no luck, let me know and I can get them for you.

2) The seats are completely different

3) Other than running it and seeing how it goes... maybe just some basic stuff to "start fresh". Things like changing engine oil and drive lube, changing the impeller. There's a good chance the impeller is fine, but at least this way you'll know the history.

4) No, if you find a suitable flat spot to install flush-mount rod holders, they won't compromise integrity if installed correctly. There are also rod holders that can attach to bimini poles and others that require a much smaller hole (sometimes just screws) to drilled in the boat.

5) Honestly, I've never been asked that question in regards to OZ. But, I don't see why it wouldn't be. Is there any company over there that "represents" Sea Ray or honors the warranty?

Is there any time left on the original, 2-year, engine warranty? Was an extended warranty purchased on it?

EDIT: Oh, you asked about a tower. You can get the Sea Ray tower or an aftermarket. The boat does have all the reinforcing already in place, in the right spots, to accept the factory tower. A number of people have put on the aftermarket tower - as expected, it would be less expensive.

Check out the 185 Sport thread - it's all about JUST that boat.

Thanks Dennis. Appreciate the input. I have bought an aftermarket tower already but if you can get me a price on the graphics kit it would be appreciated. Its a shame that the bolster on the bolster seat is not interchangeable with the standard ones.

I've found the standard seat to be too low and was surprised to find that there appears to be no adjustment. I find the window frame exactly seems to obscure where I would like to see. Let me know what you end up doing and I might follow.

Also, what after-market tower did you buy & how much did it cost. I enquired about importing one that was supposed to be like the factory fitted ones and the price and shipping was prohibitive.

Over here in Perth, the local Sea Ray dealer is Challenge Marine (I bought my boat through them), but I don't think they extend over east.

I've also got a couple of newby questions.

- How many engine hours should I leave between services? I am running in salt water.

- With a standard swing-nose 185 trailer (2007), is there an option to mount a spare wheel? Any pictures welcomed.

Cheers

Dave.

Dave,
I have mounted a spare to the trailer but made a mistake when doing it. I bought a standard design that was basically straight up/down (perpendicular) to the trailer frame rails. When i installed it, there was NO WAY in heck the wheel would mount without hitting the hull of the boat. I tried to mount it in various places with no luck. The problem being, the trailer rails closely follow the contour of the hull with little clearance. Instead of returning it (I had a 2000 mile boat trailering excursion I was taking in a week) I ended up using slightly longer tire mount bolts and spacers to "push out" the tire from the hull. The spacer was longer at the top bolt and shorter on the bottom to keep the tire angled down. It worked well. In short, you probably should purchase the angled mount to begin with as it would work better. But in a pinch the standard can work.

Hope this helps.

DCW,

I have a swing nose trailer for my 175 Sports and have just installed a spare wheel holder prior to a 1200km round trip. I managed to put a standard wheel holder towards the bottom of the winch stem leaving room for winching, is well clear of the hull and and the swinging nose. If I can figure out how I can post some pics if you need to see my setup?

Cheers
