Scuff Buster Bow Guard

Is the bow eye area getting marked up from the black roller on your trailer? That's what happens to me. I've considered the ss thingy you link to, but have also considered getting a new roller that's non-marking yellow.

Haven't done either yet, though. True to form.

estebanj,
he wasn't talking about keelguards. He want something to protect where the bow roller rubs on the boat.

I have the same problem. can't clean it when the boat is on the trailer due to bunk type trailer. I was considering yellow non marring roller though!

Sorry about that. From the Overtons photo, it looked like the same type of product as the KeelGuard.

I switched to the yellow, but although the roller "may" not leave marks, everything else, dirt, water etc. on the roller or bow will leave marks and discolor the roller which in turn transfers to the hull next time.

Which reminds me, I still need to clean mine. It's got black scuff marks from about 8" above.

I have one, and so far so good. I got it free when I purchased my keelguard. I had already replaced my black bow roller with one of the yellow non marring ones, so it's just for looks mostly in my case.

Thanks for the feedback! I think I'll give both the guard and a new roller a try. I've noticed the guard on some of the new boats (Cobalt) and it doesn't look bad. I've also managed to get a few nicks and scratches in that 4" area around the eye, so I'm hoping to cover that up as well.

Do a search for my name or the keelguard on this site, I believe I posted pics after my install. Mine is pretty much a dead on color match to Sea Ray Pearl, I'd have to look up which color I got but if you get in contact with the company direct they will send you color samples free of charge.

I installed a keelguard on my 1996 bayliner 2452 that I bought off ebay. They are easy to put on (had to remove bottom paint) and the 3M really holds well. In fact it was guaranteed not to fail. You can run up on beaches without worry...

I have the yellow "non-marring" bow roller which came from the factory on my '06 185 and after owning the boat since Oct 2005, there are scuff marks on the front of the boat. If I look close enough, there are actually very tiny gouges in the gel coat. I think I will call S/R customer service and see if they can do anything about it. MM dealer said it is normal and an unfortunate reality.

And they're right, this time. They can control what either surface is made of, but no one can control what ends up on either surface. That's the problem, road film, grim etc.

I like the idea of the SS guard, but honestly, if you keep both clean, it stays pretty safe.

I heard today of a shallow lake where it is popular to spray the entire "bottom paint area" of the hull with pickup truck bedliner. They just don't texture it with a roller like they do when they spray it in a pickup. Rhino Linings just comes in black but Line-X comes in colors, BTW. They say it ends the problem of nicks in the gelcoat from bottom rubs and nothing sticks to it. Anybody have experience with such a thing? Not that I'm interested in doing it to my boat. The upper Mississippi is mostly mud if you make a mistake and venture into the shallows. (Just be sure to avoid those wingdams.)

A gallon of bed liner weighs the same or less than a gallon of bottom paint, I'm told.
