So I'm 2 cans deep into scotch guarding all fabrics. 2 Bimini tops plus covers for each, 1 cockpit cover, complete camper canvas, cockpit and cuddy carpet.
While I had the fabric in my hands I also lubed the zippers and snaps. Come on spring....

I use 303 also. I ran my bimini and covers through a commercial washer and retreated with 303 over the winter - 15yr old canvas looks new! I don't see any harm in using Scotch Guard, 303 is just what Sunbrella recommends.

I also run the 3M 303. They have products for both canvas and vinyl. I use them both...

Is "Scotch Guard" intended to be used in outdoor applications? I didn't think it had much in the way of UV protection...

+1 on the 303. Buy in gallon size and use a small sprayer with a pump for easy even coverage. I spray my canvas each spring.

+1 again! Not only do I treat my biminis and camper canvas, it is great on the cockpit carpet, and cabin cushions.

Looks like the consensus is 303, by the gallon....
Thanks guys

I wouldn't throw the Scotchguard away, you just might find it doesn't last as long as the 303. A treated piece of Sunbrella should bead water like crazy. But 303 seems to be the standard for treating Sunbrella - Glen Raven Mills (not too far away from me in NC) who makes Sunbrella recommends it.

I use this style pump sprayer and use about 1/2 the product vs. using a squeeze trigger bottle.

+1 That's the one I have been using. Works great and the tip angles and applies evenly. Biggest benefit is your hand in not numb from the non-stop squeezing of a trigger pump.

Are you guys that are using the sprayer doing so while the canvas is on the boat? If I try and do it that any do I need to be concerned about bleed through to the gel coat?

Another happy 303 user. But I have used scotch guard for the runner that covers the carpet in the cabin with good results.

I usually do mine off the boat. It is supposed to be applied at temps above 70F.

From the 303 Fabric Guard instructions you are also advised:

WARNING: Do not use on Vinyl, Clear Vinyl, Plastics, rubber, fiberglass or imitation suede. Damage will result from use. Protect these and other surfaces from overspray...

I always mask off my isinglass with a piece cardboard while spraying (tuck it close the the fabric and move it when spraying) and wiping any minor overspray off immediately and have not had issues.

One more note on something that came to mind. We are talking about using "303 Fabric Guard" and not the regular "303 Aerospace Protectant". Not sure the later would be advisable to use on fabric.

We use scotch guard for our carpet runners but still get stains especially from our Labrador retrievers who drool especially when it's hot. It sounds like the 303 may be better?

We have used 303 on previous boats on the sunbrella top (hardtop on current boat) with good results but it did have a strong Oder. Never thought to use the 303 on the interior carpet runners.

What is the best way to wash the canvas before applying the 303. Do you just spray on the 303 or do you wipe it down after? If it gets on the Isen glass is that a problem?
