Ok did a road trip today. What is up with SC gas. It used to always be 20+ cent cheaper the GA gas. Today it was about 5-10 cent more per gallon????

Keowee is looking good. Do they ever draw it down?

Hartwell is not looking good. The water is way down. Went to a ramp outside of Clemson it was open, but very skinny water. Not sure if something like a Sundeck could even use it.

Lake Wylie is very muddy from all the recent rains..................but if you like chocolate milk it might appeal to you.:smt043

We took this picture on Friday.

Man, that is some rough looking water. At least it is not red. When it rains around here the lakes turn red.

Let see between your Chocolate and our Strawberry we could have a good ice cream sunday (Grin)

Hey Chuck,

Allatoona is about 5' low (which is about normal for this time of year), but a lot of small debris from the recent heavy rain.

I had heard Allatoona was doing ok. I was totally surprised by how low Hartwell was. I had heard it was low, but did not realize how low.

Believe it or not Hartwell actually was much lower this past fall and has made a good come back with the rains and snow of the last month or so. The Clemson ramp I think you were at is very low and I do not use it on a good day. There is no room to swing the boat trailer around. If you can get to the ramp there is another problem as it is a short ramp. PortMan Shoals is a better choice with plenty of room to manuever and a nice long ramp.

As for gas price I don't know. I paid 1.81 for diesel the other day. Made my day.

I bet you could still get around on Allatoona even 5' down, but you are right there is alot of debris. Anyone seen anything on Lake Blue Ridge?

Now I know why so many make the trip out to Lake Sinclair or Lake Oconee. GA Power sure seems to do a better job keeping those lakes up at a nice enjoyable level. I would be scared to live over where I do and keep a boat in the lake on Allatoona. I would have to go over to Park Marina or Holiday just to get some depth.

Anyone on here on Oconee or Sinclair?

Don't Sinclair or Oconee have restrictions as to the type of boats on them? I know some of the GA power lakes do like Burton. I can't take my SunDeck on it because it has a head. If I remember correctly no boats with heads or sleeping areas aloud.

Just found this on:
http://www.georgiapower.com/lakes/home.asp

What types of boats are allowed on Georgia Power lakes?
Limitations on boats vary depending on the lake. Look for signs near boat ramps and call ahead to one of the local field offices listed in this site if you have questions on whether your boat will be permitted. State law prohibits the use of any vessel, specifically including a houseboat, with a marine toilet, galley, or sleeping quarters on any Georgia Power reservoir with the exception of Lake Sinclair.

That is the case for house boats according to the site, but Sinclair is not as stringent. As for the toilets, I have friends on Oconee and their Pontoon has a toilet on it and they live on the lake as do many of their friends. Could they be referring to something that would dscharge in the water?

Ye I noticed that in the article.

I have no idea, I just know when I was checking out Burton last fall. I there was a sign at the ramp about no heads and sleeping area on the boat. I talked with the guy at the marina and yes they have to pull/remove all heads from all the boats they sell. I asked about taping mine shut for the day and was no way.

A marine toilet is considered to be any equipment for installation onboard a boat which is designed to receive, retain, treat or discharge sewage and any process to treat such sewage. A "porta-pottie" is not considered to be a marine toilet. The following figure is a typical marine sanitation device:

As to when a "porta-pottie" is not a "porta-pottie" I was told when it was permanently attached to the boat and had a pump-out hookup. At that point you have to get a decal.

All boats equipped with a marine toilet must be registered with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. You will be issued a Marine Toilet Certificate decal which must be affixed to the hull adjacent to the boats registration number. The one-time certification fee is $5.00. No renewal of the certificate is required and it is transferable to any subsequent owner of the boat.
  • Prohibited on the following lakes: Lake Burton, Bull Sluice Lake, Goat Rock Lake, Lake Harding, Lake Jackson, North Highlands Lake, Lake Oconee, Lake Oconee, Lake Rabun, Seed Lake, Tallulah Falls Lake, Tugalo Lake, and Yonah Lake.
  • If operated on Lakes Allatoona, Blackshear, Blue Ridge, Clarks Hill, Hartwell, Russell, Seminole, Sinclair, Sidney Lanier, Walter F. George Reservoir, or West Point, must have the marine toilet equipped with a holding tank that is built so that it can only be emptied by being pumped out. The "Y" valve must be removed to prevent discharge
  • You must maintain a record, going back at least one year, of the name and location of the pump-out facilities you use to empty your holding system and the dates of such use
But what do I know (Grin) I do know that I got hit the 1st time by the coast guard "Vessel Safety Check" for not maintaining the proper records on my pump-outs.

I better check on that too. There is no decal on my boat from the previous owner about the head. It has never been used so I bet he never did anything with it on Lanier. I guess on a Sundeck it is not as obvious since there is no sleeping quarters.:smt100:smt100

Hi Chuck - SweetSurrender here. Hope the New Year is treating you well. Looking forward to our annual raft us this year on Keowee.

We are just shy of full pond - only ~2 feet down this past week. As you know, we maintain almost full pond year round because of the Oconee Nuclear Station.

Maintenance was performed on the intakes to the Nuclear Station this past November. Water was temporarily pumped up into Jocasee bringing us down ~7 feet. Not that big of a deal; as the water was pumped back into Keowee the week after Thanksgiving. (If memory serves me well.)

The admiral and I boat year round, but we were definitely out on the water this past weekend - summer like temps - it was absolutely gorgeous!

PS: Gas at the marina (from several weeks ago) was $2.25/gal. You can bet it will rise as summer approaches.

Let us know if you are on Keowee before Labor Day!

Ryan,
Great to hear from you. Yes I'm looking forward to being on Keowee again real soon. The wife and I went for a drive Sunday. We pulled through your and Gary's Marina just to see how the lake looked. Is that Sea Ray 290SS still around? I did not see it at the end of the Dock across from Garys boat. Yes the weather has been nice but, it is going to change again Thursday. Back to winter for us. I think they said 30s and 40s with rain.

Wow - We were on the dock Sunday! Wish I had known - we could have shared a beverage!

The 290SS is still there - I believe he simply hauled it out for the winter.

Yes; weather is due to change; although we still plan to be on the boat this weekend! Looking at the forecast; the spring weather is to return the first on next week....

I vote we plan a raft-up WAAAY before Labor Day!

We talked about stopping and eating lunch at the marina, but just pulled through. Next time I'll have to give you all a call. It was just one of those spur of the moment trips.

I'll second the raft-up.

With the Nuclear plant how does that effect the warmth of the water. I know last time there was a big difference between the lower part of the lake where we rafted-up and the upper part by the dam. Boy did I get a shock when I jumped in the water below the dam.
