Satellite TV

I agree with Gary, it is nice to be able to watch a little TV before falling asleep and HD would be great. We currently have 2 digital HD tv sets in our 320 and looking into the directional antenna for receiving over the air broadcast stations. I don't want satellite but over the air is go enough for us right now, just have to figure out how to get it now.

I'm with Gary as well, great to watch my local channels when I'm a few hundred miles away etc. HD would be great, but I can't complain I got a screamin deal on my M3 and it has worked from day one. I can't say the same for a seatel unit I owned prior to the KVH.

Tom what is over the air broadcast antenna compared to satellite?

Thanks,

Just want to make sure I'm looking at all options

Anyone used one of the systems from this company?

www.intelliantech.com

This system "supposedly sells for between $2795.00 - $2,995.00

Intellian
i1

I am wonder how the searching may go, by this I mean there was another thread here where users were talking about some systems seemingly to be always searching practically, and the constant noise associated with the searching.
This is my first post..

i am looking at the Intellian i2. Anyone try it yet?
It is some what cheaper than the others, ($2200) also does HD AND can do either DirectTV or Dish.
I am just concerned how the performance/searching aspect are on their products..

LillyBelle II
2007 SeaRay 40DDA

The Intellian i2 only supports HD for Ku band... It will not do DirecTV's HD lineup... Intellian does have an HD solution for DirecTV but it is not the i2... and it requires 2 domes.

Note the K4 is only for Ka band and you'll need an i2/i4 for the Ku band.

Wow.. You are fast..
I don't want to go 2 domes so I am thinking about going Dish HD.
Have you heard any thing good or bad about this i2? Dish also has a Rf HD receiver with 2 tuners. So I only need 2 boxes to handle the 4 TVs..not bad..

Or should I just pay up and do the M3DX.. Then It cost extra to get the RF equipment

OK to some this is probably what would be termed a silly question?

My question(s) I am only referring to TV coverage around the perimeter of North America primarily, maybe for the down south and left coast folks South America as well.

Basically for satellite TV there is primarily a high up front cost, converter box, receiver, antenna in the radome form no matter who the manufacture might be.

Does antenna size have anything to do with how often and long the antenna searches? I know there was a thread about some antennas searching seemly most of the time.

Then the monthly Dish TV or Direct TV cost, is this about right?

I could have swore that I read something, maybe it was for TracVision where there was on on going high monthly charge

Thanks

I put a KVH M1 on my boat. It searches all the time. Maybe once per minute on slack lines at the dock. I talked to the KVH techs about it and the answer is that it is a normal condition. They said if the boat rotates more than 2 degrees the antenna starts looking. I do know my neighbor has an M3 and it's "active" about 1/3 as much as mine is. The reception is fine but if I had it to do over I'd do the M3.

I have Direct TV and can't stand them. I signed up for a $29.95/month promotion. My first bill comes and it's $45/month. I ended up having to make 10 threatening phone calls to get the billing right and ended up getting a $100 refund after I wrote to the CEO at Direct TV. Basically, they use the low price similar to a rebate program. They know some fairly high % of people will not go through the hassle of sorting it out.

In any event, the system is in and I'm glad I have it.

Has anyone looked into Sirius Backseat TV? For $6.99 a month and cartoons for the kids, this might be an option... http://www.sirius.com/backseattv

I remember reading somewhere that this is what Sirius/XM was banking on to make money. If they could add more channels it could be interesting.

Over the air broadcast is what your local channels are transmitting through the air, to be received by an antenna (rabbit ears or powered antenna). This is what we use at our house, and the HD is actually a better pictures since they do not compress the HD signal much like Direct TV and the other satellite companies plus the cable companies. Plus, it is free as long as you can get the signal.

Once I figure out the best antenna to use, I will let you know....hey we are only like 4 slips away so it shouldn't be to hard to find each other....:smt038
