I was wondering if anyone generally rafts up on the Sassafras. We normally anchor right inside the 6mph zone across from the DuPont Estate. We have been rafting there for the last couple of years, but this year everyone that we normally raft with have sold their boats.

If you ever want to raft up look for our Redneck Yacht Club flag flying and we will toss you a line.

We're always lookin' for new spots, and new friends. Maybe we'll take a ride up there one weekend...

I believe I saw you guys last year rafted up; as I remember seeing the Redneck Yacht Club flags. We rafted in the Sassafras a lot last year in that same area (thanks to the high gas prices) Great place to hang on the hook; I know we will be there a lot this year. If we see you I will come by and say hi. By the way were do you keep your boat?

We keep our boat at Duffy's. So it is a real short run for us. Please stop on by, we are always looking to meet new people.

We are at Sassafras Harbor Marina and with any luck at all the boat will splash this week.:smt038 Last weekend I finished with bottom paint and waxed the hull ( I forgot how much fun bottom paint was) sure glad that’s done.:smt101 Top side will have to wait till next weekend as I have some yard work to do before I can play with the boat…. so the admiral told me.:smt013

IMO, Skipjack Cove (www.skipjackcove.com) is the nicest marina, followed by Georgetown/Sassafras Harbor (www.sassafrasharbormarina.com) and then Duffy's (www.duffycreekmarina.com) who would likely have difficulty accomodating a boat your size. Skipjack and Georgetown have fixed docks and restaurants on site but some of Georgetown's docks are a bit aged. Sassafras Harbor has some floating docks as well as a couple of restaurants. All of them have shower facilities and pools on site although you'd probably want to dinghy or water taxi if you're staying at Georgetown as it shares the pool at Sassafras Harbor. Gas is typically cheapest at Duffy's but it is a bit tight getting in there and personally I prefer gassing up there on weekdays to avoid inbound/outbound traffic.

I would totally agree that SkipJack's would be the nicest place to stay. Even though I dock at Duffy's I would not recommend it for your size boat, no restraunt and the bathhouses are not the nicest. The Granary is a nice place to eat that you can get a tenor to take you to.

V,

I realize your post is a bit old, but my family and I are new to the Chesapeke and made our first trip to the Sass this past Thursday (ordinary point). It was a little early for the July 4th weekend, so I guess that's why i didn't see many raft-ups. None actually. Do you still hang on the Sass we're always looking for other families to raft-up with. (Joe-10, Kenny-8, Madelynn-6)

Yes, generally on the Sass every weekend (except this weekend 7/11-7/12). It sound like the kids are right in line with mine so it could be fun. No too many boaters hang at ordinary point since they rocked it off and fenced it. Most of the raftups are further up the river just inside the 6mph so that you won't get rocked. We look forward to meeing you all.

I think all you Sassafrasers should come on down to Still Pond on the 18th (see Still Pond Raft thread).

Vince,

Likewise, we'll be coming out of the NE River and look you up whenever we head toward the Sass. I typically monitor 16 all day and switch to 68 for conversations. Hope to offer you a beverage in the near future.

Joe

Festivus44,
WOW that's some thread, and it sounds like a great time. We just splashed our 94' 330 Sundancer about two weeks ago (after a 4 year layup) and I don't know that she's ready for a weekend yet, as her genni is still not up and running. (Coffee in the morning is a BIG deal for me.:smt021) I'll see how handy I can be between now and then, but if we can't make it... I hope you guys post threads to your weekend plans above and beyond your still pond raft-up. My family and I are new to boating on the Chesapeke and are always looking for friends with kids to spend weekends with. (we typically don't fit in with the "heathens":smt100) Thanks for the offer.

Joe

Since when was ordinay Point fenced-in? Why?
I passed by on Sunday, maybe this is why it was empty.
Still Pond on the 18th? Sounds good.

alot of people raft up at loyd's creek. Just gotta watch the sand bar going into the creek. The water is shallow thou 3 feet. I usually go in past the sand bar then put the outdrive all the way up and just pull her in and set the anchor. We were there july 2nd not alot of people around thou. Usually it get's pretty packed

Hi Joe... Don't worry about the coffee we will have plenty along with the fixins, cream sugar splenda....

We also will have the kids... Gabby 8 and Nick 6 creating the need for the coffee....

Thanks Alegria... I appreciate the offer. Another 330DA shoudl be pretty easy to spot. Looks like you got the twin 454's. Thank god the gas prices have come down from last season.
