Hello. I have just purchased a 1988 sundancer 300 that has a SAN-X treatment system connected to a Vacuflush toilet. Is this SAN-X system still a good system? Is it obsolete? I have tried to get info on a Google search, but does not give me much information. I have never owned a boat with anything but a portopotti with macerator, and know nothing about this system. Any help or guidence would be greatly appreciated. Dave

Got answer from Seaward Marine. SAN-X treatment system is obsolete and no longer made. There are very few parts available for this system. Seaward recomended removing the system and adding a standard holding tank with discharge pump.

Thanks for posting a followup (even though you had found the answer). Too often I see questions asked and never answered. Thanks.
John

In theory, the San-X system makes sense, however, very few worked consistently. We have a lot of no-discharge areas in this area.........government was giving away grants for marinas to install pump out stations if they were in a no discharge area, so we got a lot of them so marinas could get a free $5000 pump station.

A lot of new Sea Rays were ordered here in the 1987 to 1993 time period with San-X and it turned into a gold mine for the service department...........San-X required special chemicals and was tricky to operate compared to a conventional head/holding tank system. I think they added a full time "Head" guy at the dealer just to keep the San-X systems running. I think you got excellent advice..........get rid of it and install a holding tank.

Mine seems to work great (only really used it twice). It went thru it's 20 minute or so cycle each time with no problems. Looks brand new actually. I plan on keeping it for the time being. The chemicals cost a bit more then I care for, but hey, it works. Besides, where would I be able to mount a newer, bigger tank?

It is similar to a lectra-san system.I had it on a Carver I purchased. It was required on all boats on the Tennessee river for a certain time in the 80's. It worked flawlessly for 5 years. No problems with holding tanks, pump outs or dockside pumps. You will need to make sure the salt sanitizer is changed at least once a season.

It was not easy to get any info. on the SAN-X, which brought me to the idea that it may no longer be a current system, and parts may be scarce. Maybe some others will find this thread usefull. I am pulling out the san-x part of the system now. Actually with the major components removed, there is quite a bit of room for the new holding tank and macerator. Im hoping to get at least an 18 gallon tank in there. I will be listing all of the components in the classified section of this site. I quess there are few out there that still like, and use this system. The components being removed are: Treatment tank and pump, Chemical dispenser unit, overboard discharge pump, and the SAN-X electrical control panel that installs on the head wall. Thanx for everyones input.

ALMOST BOATING SEASON!
