Do any CSR members fish the waters off of San Diego (or in the general SoCal area)?

I grew up in South Florida, fishing my whole life. In Florida I've fished for largemouth bass in canals, Snook, Reds and Tarpon in the shallows/flats, and deep sea for Dolphin (still hard to get used to Dorado), Amberjack, bill fish, etc. Now that I live in SD, I'm ready to get serious about fishing here. I have been reading up on forums like "Bloody Decks" and "SDFish" to learn about local species, techniques and locations.

I think I am starting to understand enough of the local jargon and acronyms to make sense of what I'm reading. There is some that is pretty similar, for example the Dorado/Dolphin techniques. But there is a lot that seems very different, and a lot I will have to learn and experience.

So, my question is if there are any other good online resources that can help me with very specific information about equipment, line, leaders, tackle, lures, baits, techniques, etc. I'm looking for something that's more like a tutorial or guide, instead of forum posts. Most forum posts typically describe a catch using lots of jargon and some detail, but in a way that assumes the reader has experience fishing here.

Thanks in advance.

Fishing in in the SoCal area is very good but it's mainly a summer gig. Bloody decks.com is probably the best form out there. Hull truth is also good, as there is a section devoted to fishing. I don't fish too much these days so I can't give you anymore Online resources but try a Google search you should find more information. Also try stopping by one of the local takle shops and chat with the people in the store.

Thanks Bill,

I will check our Hull Truth for fishing (looked there a lot while searching for boats). I have googled a bunch, but you're right, it seems that Bloody Decks is definitely the most popular site.

I plan to hit a few tackle shops for advice and equipment...hopefully buying stuff will put them in a sharing mood.

I grew grew up deck handing on sport boats out of DP, but that was over 30 years ago. I can share with you what I know, gear, etc but my knowledge is old data. Feel free to pm me if you have questions about fishing, or San Diego in general. You wil like it here. It's a great place.

The question is, are you going to fish out of a 390MY? Not the ideal fishing platform. Head South and out quite a ways (follow the fishing boats) and catch the tuna when they are running!

Probably won't do much serious fishing from the 390MY. I may troll or cast a line or two from time to time while cruising. The boat we're under contract for has a large hydraulic extended swim platform and a railing, so there's definitely more room at the stern than a stock MY. However, I have a friend with a Viking convertible, which is where most of the serious fishing will more than likely take place.

I currently own a 280 sundancer through happenstance..................My first choice is a 370 EC. I can't find anything on here about this boat. It and the 330 EC were built form 97 to 2000, I believe and were designed to fish. I've seen a few around and they're awesome. They have a huge cockpit and are very wide. The 37 has an enclosed cabin and a nice setup downstairs. They are true express fisherman. There are a few out there with diesels and towers and they run for about $100 to $120k. Where on this forum is anyone talking about these boats??

Hi Curtiss-
I own a 1998 370EC and absolutely love it. They are indeed built for fishing, though I use mine for mostly cruising and entertaining.

I know of 1 other 370EC owner on here in Chicago, though there may be others. We started a thread for it but it's not been very active lately. You can find it here: Official 370 Express Cruiser Thread (1997-2000)

I'm happy to answer any questions you have about the boat, mine has the hardtop and twin diesels, so very comfortable and economical-ish. :)
