Salmon Fishing in Frankfort, MI August 2013

[Getaway]

Took my boys and bro-in-law salmon fishing in Frankfort this weekend. Landed a few salmon and had a great time and enjoyed the boat and town.

These fish came while trolling around the harbor right in town. Did not burn much gas Friday night!

On Saturday, we stopped to do a secluded shore lunch at the Sleeping Bear sand dunes.

Boltman, I'm already on GLF. Been there for a long time, but have not posted much. It's a big forum and hard to find where most of the discussion is happening.

The Benzie Frenzy happens the 3rd weekend of August every year out of Frankfort. They have a Pro and Am divisions, Big Fish division, 333 and ladies tourneys. We won the AM, Big Fish and took 2nd in the 333 a couple years ago. Looking to do well again this year as long as the stars align!

I had similar results north of Ludington this weekend. Lake Michigan was a gentle giant to be sure. It's rare to have that kind of dead calm lake for two days, much less for it to occur on the weekend.

Lots of wind shift this week. No telling what's going to happen with the fishery. It was set up real nice last week and some near shore activity was available. That may be back after the north blow today and easterly breeze forecast for the next couple days.

Saw you today as you were pulling into a gas station around Beulah. We were headed north on 31 coming back from our trip. Your boat looks good and hope you did well in the tournament.

Thanks! The salmon are running big this year. Many fish in the 30lb range. The biggest one weighed in the tourney was just over 32 lbs.

Glen, They canceled day 2 due to high winds. The waves were blowing over the breakwalls. Pretty nasty out there.

Good thing ,i have known fishermen who will go in that crap.I like em under 4 ft and thats pushing it.Last fall we came back from tawas in 6-7,s but with a wind from the north ,only bad part was gravelly shoals area for a few minutes.
