I thought you guys might like to see what happens when we receive a south east blow and a sail boat breaks away from the mooring.

Want to hear something funny.... Well maybe not. This sailboat belongs to an investor my father does business with.

Wow. It looks like it was bombed.

That’ll buff right out.

Holy Crap! That must have been secured poorly to smash into pieces like that. I have never seen anything that bad even pics from hurricanes.

Too funny, I nearly lost my diet coke through my nostril.

This took place in early May. The storm sent 5 foot waves through the harbor. The waves were so big, they were actually breaking and hitting the tender office (image 3). The boat was 36 feet long.

As a recovering J-35 racer with about a dozen Mackinaw races under my belt, I have seen the Lakes Huron and Michigan at their worst. I have sailed in 12-footers and sixty knot winds, tethered to the boat, scared to death.

There is nothing like an acute Great Lakes storm. Mariners from around the world will agree, too.

I know what you mean Sua Sponte....Many don't realize the strength of the Great Lakes when it comes to storms! Also, as a LEVEL 35 racing sailor (T-35 among many other boats) 18 macs & a few Chi Macs develop a real RESPECT for our great lakes huh??
I know my Sea Ray is alot more comfortable than those old racing days...every July I do "miss it" - for about a few minutes!
