Hi All,

I have a raw water cooled 5.0L MPI in my sea ray amberjack. My question is are there sacrificial anodes in the cooling passages protecting the block. If so where are they located and is there are recommended service interval for use in salt water. If not then how is the block protected from corrosion?

Cheers

There are no anodes inside the block. The anodes are on the drive to protect the drive. Your engine is not protected from corrosion, it is cast iron and will slowly rust away but it will take 20 years. You should maintain the anodes by inspecting and replacing when they become half way consumed. Your boat is raw water cooled so your biggest concern is manifolds and risers.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the response. I have just purchased new manifolds and risers to replace an old set so I was just wondering if there were any anodes to replace during the installation. Looks like I will just keep flushing after every use as normal. I might even start using salt away or similar just for extra insurance.

Cheers
Toby
