I am looking for recommendations from fellow 400DB owners on the normal locations for sacrificial anodes. On our new to us year 2000 400DB I am looking to replace the anodes before spring launch. The props have a fair bit of corrosion (likely stay current corrosion) and I have been strongly advised to have them replaced. So, while I have new props on order, I want to protect them as much as possible when the boat is launched in the spring.

We boat in fresh water. I will be ordering magnesium sac anodes.

Now the question::

Can any other 400DB owners advise where the sac anodes are located on their boats?

On my boat, currently there is the large block on the transom (see 1st pic below), and only one other sac anode, (see mystery comment below).

What about the trim tabs? My boat does not have any there.
What about the shafts? Again nothing on my boat.
What about the prop nut location?

Finally, my mystery. I have a single matching sac anode on the port side (see second pic below), but no matching sac anode on the starboard side.

Thanks

DAVE

I would have the Bonding system on the Boat checked .
Did you have the Boat Surveyed before you purchased it?
Looking at the picture of the transom the zinc doesn't look that worn.

Your mystery anode is your grounding plate.

Tabs normally have anodes on them, unless one of the mounting bolts is through bolted to the hull and has a green wire attaching it to the big anode plate inside the bilge.
(Some formulas have this)

Shafts are a great discussion, zinc or not to zinc...?
Some say its bonded through the trans.
Some folks like to add zincs, some not..
I like shaft brushes inside the boat bonded via a green wire to the big zinc plate...maybe the PO did that?

Prop nut zinc....not on a SR.

Actual 400DB owners will chime in..and this is where to read about your boat.

your inboard props should be double nutted and that leaves little thread for a anode there.
per cfd, check the bonding of ALL the underwater itens including seacocks and thru hulls.
the props should not degrade like that.

That one big bottom zinc does all the work for the boat. Except for the trim tabs. You should have a zinc on the top of each one. Sea ray did not put shaft zincs on at the factory. They designed the boat to bond the shafts to the bonding system through the transmission. Some owners have added them. I have not as the factory system has worked fine for my boat. I have had to replace many bonding wire (green wire connecting to metal components) connections.

Also, I recommend to test both your galvanic isolators. They isolate your boat from stray shore current. I had one go bad after a storm and stray current ate up my bottom zinc in record time.

Thanks, all for your comments.

Bill, can you advise where the galvanic isolators are, and what they look like? This is a new term to me.

tks

Bill, I did some research, (Youtube is awesome). I can check this out on my own now. Again, thanks everyone for advising where my anodes should be located.

Dave, Hull and Tops of trim tabs as ZZ said. I also boat n fresh water and Boat Zincs dot com recommends aluminum.
I don't recall the hull anode# ZC-406 maybe? but the tabs are 3 3/4" R-3. They will come as 2 halves. Only use one half on the top of the tab. Use other half later reusing the hardware.
I do not use shaft anodes, your call. The Cat guys will tell you what you need for your engines and aftercoolers / HE's etc
Welcome aboard

For anodes I have:

- large block on the transom
- anodes on the shafts
- anodes on trim tabs
- a small anode just below the screen for each engine intake.

You probably already figured it out, but the galvanic isolators are located behind the main switch board in the salon.

Also, there's a whole bunch more anodes (pencil zincs) that screw into your engine components at various places.

Don't forget the zinc's on the engines, generator, and transmission coolers.
2 in each engine's heat exchanger
1 in each engine's exhaust riser
2 in each transmission heat exchanger
1 in the generator's heat exchanger
