Running rich

You have 2 senders at the thermostat housing. 1 is to the guage and 1 is to the ecm to tell it to run rich when cold then lean out at temp. Atleast that is how it is on my 5.0 efi. Change that. Could be bad. Fixed my problem with fuel smell and smoke at start up

My coolant temp sensors are good, both engines read the same resistance when cold. Problem is fuel pressure rises from 29 psi to 50 after about 15 seconds of run time on port engine. Spec. is 30 psi.

It really sounds like the fuel pressure regulator to me. The real work is just getting to it
 
Just dont forget the small screen between the pump and regulator. Ass hat mercruisee came up with another small piece that is hard to get to to just play with us sometimes. Its # 16

Sounds like dead cylinders. The ECM Is trying to compensate for the low vacuum due to dead cylinders.
I would do a compression test first before you start changing parts.
Access to the fuel pump and cooler is almost impossible without removing the riser and manifold .

The compression is 180 and all the cylinders, runs great, just runs rich cold.. Fuel pressure issue. I am going to try the whole fuel module removal , then take it apart on the bench . I'll pull the pull the cooling water lines come a few lines dual lines and the upper motor mountain bolts that attach the cool fuel module to there and pull it towards the Stern

I was able to simply pull off the cover plate. And all three individual components within (cooler, pump me regulator) we’re easily removed and replaced

I imagine it would be easier if it was a single engine facing forward, however I have twins with V drives and there's not much room. Unable to lay down there and work on it that way.
 
I did my regulator with twin 5.0's and a genny. Hang upside down, plan on atleast 20 F bombs, 10 you mother f er and about 1 qt of blood. Just have to bite the bullet and get in and do it.

Got her done on Friday. 1 1/2 hours total. Fuel pressure now about 30 and steady!! Disconnected fuel line and water line at trans cooler, 2 motor mount nuts, slid complete assy to rear and out. Not terrible.

Nicely Done! Doesn't it feel good when it all works out (For a lot less than HAVING to have a pro handle it! LOL)
