Question 1: Does anyone know replacement bulb type/# for running light (Attwood 3800)? Lights worked, bulbs burned out, replaced bulbs - nothing. Fuse good, switch good, rear running lights work, also verified 12V at light socket where bulb plugs in and contact of bulb. Only thing I can figure is wrong bulb - but cant find anything on web besides "10 watt bayonet". any other ideas?
Question 2 : anyone replaced these with LED - understand requires whole new light - looks like Attwood lightarmor (NV1012SS) is best replacement - but new fixture dimensions much smaller (2.5 x 2 1/8 x 1) vs current 3800 (3 3/8 x 2 7/16 x 1.5) - anyone else found good replacement?

Thanks

Did you replace with standard filament bulb, or LED? LED bulbs typically only go in one way, so flip it around if possible (eg: bayonet style).

Bulb socket clean and free of corrosion?

Bad new bulb? Bench test with 12v battery and jumper wires?

There are alot of direct LED replacement lights out there. Mileage may vary - best to use reputable marine site and/or find someone whose been there done that so you know it fits/works/and meets specs (brightness/field of view) - specially for Nav lighting.

Thanks. yep all clean, yep new bulb (tried 4 of them), yep bulb worked outside socket, no not LED as not compatible in fixture.
for benefit of all:
1 - official bulb replacement is 912717 per call to Attwood.
2 - yes, per Attwood the replacement LED fixture for 3800 is the Lightarmor which is significantly smaller and different hole patterns - anyone else replaced - if so with what brand/make?

Assuming your 912717 number they gave you is good, that should be a BA15D base. However, if the pins are unequal in spacing, you've got a BAY15D. LEDs are available for both styles, although the BAY15D could give you polarity issues that wouldn't normally be present with the incandescent bulb.
I've run into this with automotive tail lights where you get a good voltage reading in the socket, but the spring behind has lost its tension and wont apply the proper pressure to the contacts. Keep in mind that this style of bulb doesn't use the shell as ground, so all of the current has to travel through the two contacts in the base.

Z, just a heads up... in your owner's manual should be a diagram that lists all of the lights used throughout the boat and the replacement bulb numbers.

I just had this issue. What I found is that the bulb doesn't exactly fit the fixture. Meaning the locating pins don't go into the slots. So I had to put the bulb in and not put the pins into the slots to hold the bulb. And the pins are sitting on the "nub" that stops the bulb from snapping out. This made the contacts line up with the fixture. I would have replaced the pig tail if I would have had enough wire to do so. On mine the pig tail is down in the deck and there is no extra to pull out to replace the fixture or pigtail socket. If you look at the bulb and the socket, you should see what I was talking about. I finished up with a healthy dose of die electric grease to stop further corrosion and calked the fixture back down.
