I posted this in the 260 forum without response, so let me try it here...

I just purchased a new GPS (535S) and I need to run new wiring from the new thru-hull transducer to the cockpit.

I unscrewed the tray to the right of the cockpit seat and what I see is a mass of wires heading aft going into a gob of sealant. I also see what looks like a plywood wall.

I'm not sure I want to disturb the wiring in the gob of sealant, that is obviously working fine.

I was thinking of: a) drilling a new hole in the plywood and fishing through to the back, or b) trying to fish through one of the the gaps between the plywood and the hull.

Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The easiest way to run cable to your dash is to follow throttle/shifter cable or steering cable.

SB;

I'm not sure about you're exact model, but all the wiring on my 240 runs along the starboard side all the way up to the helm.

I'm interested. Did you replace the stock thru-hull and what model thru-hull did you buy if you did. I'm thinking of do the same thing on my new 545S. I want to replace the stock Smartcarf Thru-hull with a Garmin Compatible thru-hull and un-plug the current one.

is this what you did.

Running the wiring was so easy, I'm sorry I bothered anyone with the questions. Had the wire fished through in about 10 minutes. Doah!

As far as the transducer, yes I replaced the standard transducer with a "GARMIN B60-20 TILTED ELEMENT DUCER" that Jim recommended. It is a bit pricey, but I figure I'll see the fish so well I won't need bait and pole, just a net.

You will have to drill a bigger hole for the new transducer, you'll need a 2.5" hole saw.

One problem I encountered is that the transducer shipped with a 5-pin cable instead of a 6-pin cable, so I am waiting for Jim to get back to me on that.

I was hopeing to do a one for one replacement without having to cut any new holes. If I have to cut holes then I will probably go with a transom mounted tranducer.

You are not cutting a new hole, just enlarging the existing hole. With a sharp hole saw and a decent drill motor it takes less than 5 minutes.
