Anyone had any experience doing this? Was wondering the best way to get one installed. Preferably Ill do the work myself.

What are your trying to hook up? I have run wires in every nook and cranny of a 48DA. Where are trying to run from and where do you want it to go?

Thanks for the reply! I'm trying to run it from the cd player in the galley to the cockpit. Its just to hook up ipod/music players. Its a clarion cd deck, I'm hoping there is an aux out on the back of the player. I just don't want to go tearing into something that doesnt necessarily need to be removed.

I can't say for certain on your boat, but on my 2005 48 there is no aux out on the back of the Clarion in the salon. I pulled out the Clarion unit and checked a year or so ago.

Capt. Jason

Glad I didn't pull it out only to find out there isnt one, thanks! I guess what Ill end up doing in replacing the cd deck.

Is there a 48da owners thread in in the sport yacht threads? I looked a couple pages back and didnt see one...

Appreciate the help guy!

SoonerDO - I have an electronic copy of the Clarion manual, if you want to PM me with an e-mail address I would be happy to send it to you.

Well, there are several answers to your question. If you are looking to hook up an I-POD and such, you would want to have an AUX "in" and not "out" I would think. I do not believe the Clarion Unit has an Aux "in" capacity. The easiest thing to do in that situation would be to replace the Clarion unit with a unit that would have AUX in capacity. However, I would stick with a Clarion unit that will still allow you to use the 6 Disk changer. To get around all of this, I did away with two sound system set up. Otherwords, the Bose 48 Lifestyle system in the Salon now controls all the sound in the front bedroom, Salon, Cockpit, and outside speakers on top of hard top. I still use the Carion radio/6 disk changer but I tieds it's out put to the Bose system. I have a seperate amplifier w/remote for the front bedroom, an seperate amplifier w/remote for the salon, a seperate amplifier w/remote for the cockpit, and a seperate amplifier w/remote for the hardtop speakers. Each one of the amplifiers tie back in to the Salon lifestyle 48 System. The TV's in each area can also play thru the Bose Speakers in each respective area. The only drawback is that the entire system is 120 volt AC but we always have the Gen running so no big deal. I am considering adding a AC/DC converter so that I don't have to run the Gen. I really like the system. I did away with the old Clarion speakers in the Cockpit and added some new Bose 10" speakers that get the job done very nicely.

As far as running wires. From the Clarion to the helm, no big deal. There is a huge cavity to the left of the entertainment center that runs right up to the helm. When facing the salon Couch, the rectangular fabric looking speaker cover panel above the phone jack and power outlet will pull out. From here you will be able to see ther vertical cavity I am talking about. You will need to remove the two drawers below the TV. From there it should make sense how to get from the Clarion to the cavity. Then remove the big plastic recessed storage bin next to the helm seat and you will be able to see where the top of the cavity is from the helm. PM me if you have any questions.
