I am new here and need some help with my fresh water pump. I replaced the pump in my 370 DA two years ago because the old one kept coming on frequently. The new pump did the same thing and now does not shut off at all. It slows when the water is turned off but never stops. I also have air in my cold water faucets when the water is running.

You have a small leak somewhere....the trick is finding it. I would start at all connections and check for a drip or damp area.

With the presence of air in the water, I would suspect that the leak is between the pump and the water supply/tank.

try the strainer first, make sure the strainer is reall sealed tight

I had a similar problem this spring. Spent about four hours looking for a leak. Turned out to be a faulty pressure switch on the pump.

A faulty switch is a good tip, but if the old pump had similar simptoms while new one doesn't stop at all, this sounds like a leak. Try not the obvious places like stern shower or spigat or anchor washdown (if you have it).

Check to see if the plastic strainer/filter is cracked on the input side of the water pump. A small hairline crack can induce air (as it can if it is not tightened down). You may not see any leaks because this is on the suction side of the pump and the force of the pump drawing water is what is pulling air into the system. - Jeff

I just had this same problem. I did a search of the site for a solution and came up with this string among others, all saying the same thing: check your strainer, check for a leak, replace the pressure switch, replace the pump.

With my pump, I had good pressure. Everything worked as usual, but after turning off the water source the pump slowly quieted town to an almost inaudible hum. Upon inspection in the bilge, the pump was running continuously and was hot to the touch. There were clearly no leaks anywhere. I cleaned the already clean strainer and no change. I loosened fitting and ran all faucets, even topped of the tank and ran the shore hookup. No better. After removing the 4 screws and holding the pressure switch in my hand, I realized the 5th screw went into the center of the diaphram and had nothing to do with attaching the sensor to the pump.

I reassembled everything and turned on the power. Still running on. I backed out the center screw and the pump stopped. I turned it in and the pump started again.

So, the screw in the center of the sensor is an adjuster. If the pump is running on, try to back out the center screw.
