Replacing Rule 800 GPM shower sump pump. I was told the one at West Marine was a direct replacement for the one on my boat (1999), but the new one is taller and will not allow me to close the lid of the sump. Anyone have this problem and what did you do? The 500 GPM pumps are shorter and will fit, but I hate to downsize on the pump.

Thanks

I noticed on the rule website that their shower pump boxes now come with the 500 in them. Sounds like that’s their new standard. I’m guessing it’s sufficient.

I replaced my pump with the 500 And it has not been a problem. We use the shower all the time.

Same, went with the 500 after buying a 800's that would not fit. Have had zero issues with the 500's for 2+ years now.

Have you seen the new design for the Rule box? It has a cover with clips so you don't need a screwdriver to take off the lid. I think they make it in 500, 800 and 1100. Can you fit a taller box in the bilge and still get the floor cover back in place?

I replaced mine...nice upgrade. I need to replace the other. At some point, and I'm going to cascade them together so if one fails, the other takes over.

Just replaced mine last week with old style 800 rule from Amazon
I literally returned the pump and float yesterday to Amazon because I was able to get my old one working. PO had disconnected the float from the pump trying to "fix" it.

Yes, Amazon has the pump and the float.

Is there a standard on when to replace them? Do you guys wait until they go or replace after so many years?

I've always just waited. Shower that gets all the use probably lasts 5-6 years. Other sump that is mostly ac drain just got changed after 20 years. Good idea to keep spare since the design change will require a little more work.

I wait until they go, but have a spare shower sump pump and float, as well as bilge pumps onboard.

Went with the new rule sump box but put in a waterwitch instead of the float. Best thing ever. Runs the pump 7 seconds after “off” and sucks the box right down to nothing

Can someone confirm which pump it is? I see there’s more than one 500 model on their website. One has like a built in sensor, etc.

No issues with the pump air locking?

I always seem to have issues with the floats going, not the pumps, but that's just me.

Or, you take the whole thing apart and the float is working fine as you test it. Then you put it all back together and the float goes back to not working

I checked my pics and I have an 800 in the box, then an 1100 and float in the bilge area outside the box. When this float gave out, and the box overflowed, I had almost an inch of standing water despite both the 1100 and float working.

One strange thing they did was to route the A/C drain line right on top of the wiring to the float. I can't help but wonder if that's why the floats don't last  When I get around to upgrading the box I should really move that drain line.

Screw the floats. I got tired of changing mine after inexplicable failures and installed a Water Witch.

500 GPM is about 200 times what you need to drain the sump.
