Rudder stuffing box question

What kind of maintenance does a stuffing box need?
Or do you only need to take some actions if they leak?
And how do you tread a leak?

My boxes are fine but I like to know.

They dont require anything. After a few years, they may sep some water, then you can tighten the packing nut.

Muy boat is a '96 and that is all I've ever had to do .......other than spray the rudder arm, post mount, tie rod, actuator and autopilot sender with anti-corrosion spray.

What kind of anti-corrosion spray do you use? WD-40 or something more like the stuff that is on the bonding lugs?
