Rudder indicator

No reason to be insulting. I read all of the posts and I appreciate the comments very much. I have been boating for over thirty years owning boats from 34’ to 48’ and I know very well how to drive a twin engine boat by just using the shifters. Because this is my first boat without the auto-pilot and rudder indicator, I just asked if anyone was familiar with the Davis instrument. I didn’t expect people to give me lessons on how to drive a boat.

Based on your questions and YOUR stated ability to know when the boat was going straight it was assumed you were new at this. Please pardon the assumption. And I wasn't the only one that made it.

I wonder how vertical does your wheel need to be for the Davis instrument to work?

I've had a Davis for eons. When I sold the boat I took it with me. Awesome device.

I don't "know" what the required angle is, but my wheel is not straight up. I would guess anything greater than 45 deg. and it would work.

I did it again; started reading a new thread and "liking" a bunch of posts, only to realize it was started almost five years ago! Oh, well. Regardless, I think I'd like a Davis indicator on mine as well.

OOPS. I followed you.

You made me do it.

From their instruction manual: "Wheels may be inclined 45–90° from horizontal." So, @GypsmJim got it right.
Big Deal. I always do.

(EDIT....Sorry, I'm just in a playful mood tonite - going on a Caribbean vacation tomorrow.)
