roll on davits Hurley, Naughtley or ??

i dont have mine installed yet, but i have a set of the nautley ones, i heard nothing but good things about them.

I put the Hurley H2O davits on our 48DA last year and would recommend them.

We have the Nautley davit system, which is excellent and they are very well made. Think you would probably need to look at their extended arm and roller system.

How do these davit systems work when you have a swim platform as elevated above the water as on a 420/44 sundancer? Doesn't seem like the extended arms with the rollers would come close to the water.

Depending on the weight of the Dinghy and engine lifting it back onto the davits can be very difficult. A friend has a 2007 38 which has a similar high swim platform as the 420 and he mounted Hurleys. It's not easy getting his dinghy back up. The swim platform on my boat is about 10 inches off the water, so it's very easy to slide my Rib and motor back on the boat.

Jim,

What type of dinghy are you hoisting up? I just bought a 48DA and was also looking at he Hurley system. Any advice would be great.

I have an zodiac 8-6 RIB with 5 hp Honda 4 stroke, use an older Hurley, probably 115 lbs total on my 420 AC. I don't remember how high it is above the waterline, will check in a couple weeks when go down to the boat. Haven"t had any real issues pulling up 115 lbs as of yet. The soft bottom dingy we previously had, 9-6, was very much of a struggle. Hurley"s new H2O with rollers would be a dream.

Congrats on your new 48DA! I'm sure you'll love it as much as we love ours.

We have an 11'2" Zodiac Cadet RIB with an 8hp Yamaha motor (a pretty small motor, but we don't travel long distances in the tender and the 8hp motor gets the job done). The platform is pretty far off the water and its a lot of work to haul the dinghy up by hand. We were taking the motor off and laying it on the platform, then pulling the dinghy up and re-attaching the motor after tying the dinghy down, which was a bit of a project. So, we installed a pad eye on the back of the hardtop and bought a long rope with a few pulleys. We attach one end of the rope with pulleys to the pad eye and the other end to the front of the dinghy and that makes it easy to pull the dingy up out of the water and position it onto the davits while keeping the motor on. Either my wife or I will pull the dinghy up using the rope (the pulley system makes it easy enough for her to do it, even with the motor on) and the other one will rotate it onto the davit system. Once its centered on the davits, we secure it with four tie-downs to a few pad eyes that we had installed on the platform. Its very secure once tied down - we've been in pretty rough chop with the dingy on the platform and it doesn't budge. Its easy to launch the dinghy off the platform - after you free the tie-downs, you just push the dinghy off the back of the boat and the davits rotate to drop the dinghy into the water. I like the Hurley davits b/c it allows the dinghy to be secured to the platform without removing the motor (provided you can hoist it up onto the platform with the motor attached). This system worked well for us last summer, but we actually just decided to convert our platform to a hydraulic system. We'll retain the Hurley davit system with the new hydraulic platform.

I hope that helps, let me know if I can answer any more questions. I spent a bunch of time researching different options for the 48DA and settled on the Hurley system and have been very happy with it. I didn't do the installation myself, our local Sea Ray dealer did the installation of the davits and pad eyes.

Thank you Jim. I had the nautley system on my 38 da and had same the problem. It works well but quite an effort to lift on to the platform. I have seen boaters mount an electric winch in the transom locker. Did you look into that type of solution?

I didn't look into the electric winch b/c we tried the pulley from the hardtop and it worked well and so didn't investigate other options after trying that.

Bart,
Dont even think of it . I did my home work and the 42/44 Da are way to high off the water. ( assuming u have a momtor on the dink of some size ) The weights just to much to overcome the height.

Ive been looking for 2 years now

Thanks Rob. We do have one crazy high swim platform. But it looks good! ;-)

I guess if I go with a dingy it's going to have to be towed (like I do my waverunner now) or invest in a hydraulic lift.

As follow-up to my previous post, I've just learned that the hydraulic platform that we're having installed comes with its own davit system. I had planned to use the Hurley H20 davits from my current platform with the new platform. If anyone is interested in buying the H20 system, PM me. Thanks.

Is it a SeaLift hydraulic lift?
