"Roll Call"

:smt018Have a great time!!! I've done that trailer trip many of times from Charlotte to Leesburg...........

Can I go, Can I go, anyone have room or a 20ft dingy name Old Skool.

Or you can just make a flotilla around me to break waves and refuel.

Seriuosly, a friend of mine was 5 miles out in a 32ft'r and some guy in a 22ft whaler was out diving a wreck or some nonsence. I never boated on the ocean. Is this commonly done in such a small boat? Common sense seems to say no. :smt017:smt017

:thumbsup:Depends on the weather, when you cross the gulf stream things can change fast. Thats why the smart boaters leave at O' dark 30 before the wind gets strong. A jet ski club makes the crossing every year. Check out youtube on jet skis to the bahamas.

I use to take my 22' Aquasport out 30 miles to do some grouper fishing. As long as the weather forecast looks good and you keep up on your radio checks you're fine. I would feel better with a twin motor boat but we did it anyway.

If they were predicting anything more than 2-3 footers I would stay home. Speed was dependant on the seas but roughly averaged 20mph. It took me about 45 minutes form my house to get to the gulf and then head out from there. Figure 2-2 1/2 hours each way, maybe more. My Aquasort had a 100 gallon tank (crazy considering my 280DA is much bigger, twin motors and a genny and has the same size tank). I had a 200hp Johnson OB and it was excellent on gas. I would come home with 1/4 - 1/2 tank left depending on the seas.

Sounds like this will be a fun trip. I fully expect you guys will keep a blog while you are out and underway, right?!

So what is the distance of Ocean travel to Bimini for you guys, 50-60 miles?

And I've only trailered my 280 one way, about 8 miles and to do 65mph at this point would seem to scare the life out of me! I know I'll get used to it, but still!
