Ripping DVD’s

Orlando or anyone…
Trying to get raspberry to boot with unbunto and automatically launch Plex. Any tips on this? We cannot find the Plex file to trigger launch at start up.

Grant - Plex should automatically start. It runs in the background and there is no visual indicator that it is running. You may need to assign it a Static IP address so it will always be accessible from the same IP Address.

Guessing at where you are actually at and what is going on, please post back what you can actually do now,
Did the server ever run and you then lost it's connection?
Have you been able to access Plex at all?
Have you added movies?
What client are you using to access Plex?

Very basic info:
Web browser allows configuration of Plex server and can also watch movies.
Clients like FireTv and Roku can only watch movies and configure itself.
When default info is used to install, http://Your IP Address:32400/web/ will access the web page.

Also as an alternative, you may want to run another image of Plex that is completely setup already: https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/raspberry-pi-plex-ubuntu

This article may help with the static IP: https://www.ionos.com/digitalguide/server/configuration/raspberry-pi-plex/

Ok thanks for the info we will try just booting the Pi and see if it works.

We got it all running using wifi... no issues

What we were playing with was trying to get it to work off line. The 2 Vizio's with the built in smart tv apps won't do chit when no internet so can't even get to the app to launch it offline.

The FireTv on the other 2 TV's we got to launch from settings forcing the launch but it is not seeing the server. We have the static IP all set and followed all the online videos just can't seem to get it to see the "onboard server" when offline. Maybe we did not wait long enough not sure we were running out of time to play with it.

All this is moot point as we just wanted to have a back up plan if the marina has chitty wifi so it would work offline. We will keep trying and see if we can make it work, otherwise is is working fine.

In the end looks like we need to buy a year out of this until Starlink becomes available then it will be a game changer and who cares about offline as I will always be online.

Going a complete different direction - on the Cisco router there is a USB port.... What would happen if I plugged the hard-drive into it? How would you access it from a smart tv on the network and see those movies on the hard-drive? Can you even do something like that? It says something about media server in the Cisco owners manual. Just curious?

Anyway daughters boyfriend is the one working on this as it is a little out of my wheelhouse. He will be back to the boat on the 4th to play with it. We leave the morning of the 7th to Bahamas for 10 days and the marinas we are staying in all say they have good wifi so....

For Plex to work offline you need to set the IP address's that do not need to authenticate.

Router usb port - you can just plug it in there and in the router setup just share the media. It can be accessed by \\router IP\share name, substitute your info.

We are away and and at anchor the next few days and have very spotty wifi at the moment. So sorry for short reply's, hard to get and copy links.
