Being a Minnesotan this hits especially hard.... whether you liked his music or not, you can't deny he was a musical genius and an enormous talent.

Just heard about this, this afternoon. The man was pure genius. Hope the M.E. Report shows natural causes as a result of the flu.

unreal. i heard he could play over 100 instruments or something ridiculous. amazing. RIP

Strange dude, musical genius! RIP Prince

Sad....never really liked him, I saw his movie and was turned off, but I admit he was a musical genius. RIP TAFKAP

+1

Honestly could not stand the music or the cute outfits but....

Absolutely no denying what a talent he was. Take care in the afterlife. RIP

RIP his musical talents will be missed

Yesterday was a sad day. My son's daycare is down the street from Paisley Park. The crowds were pretty intense especially with the media coverage. My first ever concert was Tom Petty. My next three were all Prince (or the symbol thing). He was incredibly talented. His mostly self taught musical skills were without peer. I never met him personally, but I have a couple of close friends who had strong personal/ professional relationships with him. According to them you won't find a more loyal guy. He definitely had his quirks, but his talent unquestionable.

I think everyone here in the Twin Cities has a 1 or 2 degree of separation from Prince. There are so many people that knew him or had significant encounters with him... and I think everyone here knows someone who personally knew him. Like you, I have friends who knew him and I know his former personal assistant. Yes, he had a quirky side but I think he liked to play that up to add a bit of mystique. From my what I hear he wasn't any more eccentric than any other celebrity. His assistant told us tons of funny stories -- such as calling him at home at 3am and ask him to run to the store for a small bag of Chex Mix. But he also said that Prince was a normal, loyal, down to earth person as much as a famous person could be.

My favorite thing about him was that he was dedicated to the Twin Cities and kept himself visible. You'd often see him at a local store by himself or he'd pop into a local club unannounced with his entourage just to see a local act or you could see him on his motorcycle near Paisley Park. He opened up Paisley Park to the public and would announce shows via Twitter with a 2 hour notice -- first come, first serve -- anyone was allowed.

Sad, sad day and huge loss for everyone.

I still have my ticket stub from his concert in 1984....

Being a 39 year radio veteran and one who has been on the air throughout his career, and others, this one was totally out of left field. The You Tube link to the 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame shows an amazing performance by Prince. If you watch closely you can see the amazement and admiration on both Jeff Lynne's and Tom Petty's faces while they watch him shred those strings. Dhani Harrison, George's son, shows the same attitude.

We've lost some great career musicians, song writers and entertainers this year. Prince's influence in the music industry is deeper than most people realize. Songs like Nothing Compares to You and pop monster Manic Monday are both ones written by him. RIP Prince...you were part of my professional and personal life since the late 70's.

RIP Prince - I moved from S.CA to MN in 1994 when Prince had his shop in Uptown. He would make appearances all over town and downtown all the time and also open Paisley Park after bar close. Prince in my opinion was an excellent guitarist. He could rip anything and I enjoyed watching him play.

R.I.P. Prince

And just like that a fine tribute to an awesome man comes to an end.....

If an overdose is the cause, then that's even more tragic. Addiction is an awful thing and we've seen too many artists succumb to that whether musicians, actors or comedians. I guess only the autopsy will tell the truth.

Musically he was very special indeed. How many musicians create their own instruments? He was incredibly talented.

His politics, especially of late, really put me off. His private white house concerts for the Obama's and the black lives matter concert after the riots in Baltimore left much to be desired about his politics.

I believe actors and musicians need to stop pushing their twisted NWO politics to the masses and focus on their talents instead. Everything is way too politicized and 80% of the country is tired of it.

With regards to politics and the whole climate of negativity that is so pervasive lately.....

It's refreshing to see the media and people from all walks of life, from around the world, come together without hatred, negativity and racism. It's unfortunate that it took losing a musical genius for this to happen. Very similar to when Michael Jackson died.

Prince was a true talent.

I have long thought the song Purple Rain was a great song to be done as a country song. Heard recently that the writer of Britney Spears "Oops, I Did It again" originally wrote the song for Robert Plant. So you never know how it might work out.

Thank you. Well stated.
