The legend has passed. He lived not far from us here in Nor Cal and used to hang out on weekends back in the 80's and early 90's signing his books at the book store at our airport. When I had my maintenance shop there I had the occasion to meet him when he needed me to dynamically balance the prop on his Aviat Husky. Interesting character.

I am a huge fan of Chuck Yeager. When I was a teen (the 60's) I was really into rockets, missiles, and space. I knew who all the test pilots were (one was a cousin) and Yeager was the top of the heap. I had models of the X-1, x-15 various missiles and lots of airplanes. That was before I had to get eyeglasses. I was so disappointed. Back then you couldn't do any of that stuff if you wore glasses! Then I got interested in boats. The rest is history. God Bless you General. You were a great role model and an inspiration to millions of people.

Met him once as a kid at NASA Langley, my dad took me to watch them drop test a Apollo capsule at the Crash Gantry. He was one of the nicest down to earth folks. He was a great man. My condolences to his remaining families

He married a younger gal around the time I met him, It was interesting to us at the time as she seemed fixated on harassing businesses that had pictures of Chuck or other memorabilia displayed in such a way that she felt could promote business and extorted license fees from the business. Many simply removed the pictures. At the time we thought it was sad because he was such a popular local figure that was destined to obscurity for a few bucks.
