I am looking to purchase a boat, I was looking seriously at the Bayliner 3587 but after looking at one at Bowley's Quarters last week I saw a Sea Ray 380 aft cabin and I fell in love with it. Does anyone have any reviews of the boat, I'd probably buy somewhere around the year 2000-2001 with diesels. Will it damage the engines if I run it slow like a trawler most of the time? Any feedback?

RacerXXX, One of my boating buddys has a '01 380AC and I really like the layout of it. I think it's the perfect boat (the way his is setup) for entertaining and for a family to spend nights out on the hook. They are on that thing EVERY weekend and will stay out on her the entire weekend. They also take her to Gulf Shores, AL and Pensacola, FL several times a year.

As far as diesels go for this boat, I don't know if there are many out there (for sale).

I don't believe that running at trawler speed will damage anything at all, however I was told by my mechanic that is IS a good thing to run the boat wide open ever so often just to see where you are on your speed, temp, and all that kind of stuff so you will know how the boat should be performing.

Good Luck in your searching:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

The slow speed vs high speed cruising subject has been discussed several times here so a thread search will give you the details, but the majority consensus was that predominantly slow or trawler or hull speed cruising was perfectly fine. But an occasional burst of speed to "blow the carbon out" was recommended. I know my boat will get 2 to 2.5 times the mpg at trawler speeds over fast cruising. Just don't exceed the hull speed as then you are trying to get on plane and fuel use exponentially goes up and stays up until solidly on plane and drops again

Been looking at a bunch of boats and just made offer on 380AC. We have 4 kids and the layout is perfect for them! Boat has 3126 Cats and former owner has moved up to the 42 AC, but much newer. Great boat! Go for it!
