Hi All,

What a great website. New here and could not find this topic but I'm sure it's been asked. I have an '89 340 DA with the factory installed AC unit. In the summer this thing gets nice and cold. But I cannot get heat out of it. I have let it run for an hour and all it does is blow cool air.

Does anyone have any advice or an idea on where to start?

Welcome,

Since you are in CA, I don't believe the sea water is too cold :smt001

Water flow is restricted, clear restriction by clean strainer.
Or, dirty air filter, clean lint screen or air filter.

Maybe your thermostat is damaged....

Based on age and symptom, the reversing valve in the circulating pipe may be stuck. It is some sort of self contained flip/flop valve. I have heard that you might be able to free it by rapping with a mallet, but I don't know exactly where on the unit. Around the time this happened to us, the compressor also stopped cooling and we replaced the whole A/C unit.

The reversing valve has a solenid vlave attached to it. Locate it . Pull one wire off it while in heat mode and listen for a a loud click. if no click either the solenoid is bad or we are not calling for cooling. If u do here the click. the plunger can be stuck . by pulling the wire on and off u may be able to unstick it ... taps with a mallot along with making and breaking the electical connection will help.... need more help post back .
