Rescue under way after 17 abandon stricken HMS Bounty off N.C. coast

Wow,
That is crazy!! I was at a party on that ship this past summer in Port Jefferson. My wife's co-worker is the brother of the owner. He gave us a private tour and everything! The kids LOVED it. The owner was throwing a party for his HVAC company. My wifes friend invited us onboard when we passed him on the dock and his brother invited us to share in the food and drink that he was providing. He is a nice guy. My prayers go out to the missing people in hopes that they may be found safe!

What a loss. I imagine they were running on their diesel engines instead of under sail, and the wave action likely loosened up some of the gunk that grows in the tank and settles on the bottom. That could have been the reason they lost power.

Sad to see a treasure like that go to the bottom.

Given the advance notice of this storm and it's size, why would anyone in their right mind try to "...go around.." the storm when there are ports like Norfolk, VA that they could have easily stopped in?

That was my thought!

Re: HMS "Bounty" sinks off Cape Hatteras

What in the world were they doing out in this weather, and there of all places, they call that area the graveyard of the Atlantic for a reason. I hope they find the two missing crew.

It's home was in my back yard probably 10 minutes from me. It was always a sight to see that thing sail in the bay. Hopefully they find the captain although I think if they do it won;t be a good outcome at this point.
