Repower to Diesels Part IV - THE ENGINES ARE IN!

Thanks to everyone for their encouragement! I have attached a picturs of the bilge that was taken just before they put the engines in. It shows what a nice job the yard is doing.View attachment 34564

This pic is as nice as the new Cummins!! Quality workmanship is a hard to come by, but I'm sure you already know that  More pics, looks great!!!

Absolutely fibulas! I really like the look of time and effort with such attention to detail! Be Proud my friend!

Fair wind and following sea's!

Campbell's is a quality family owned yard. They also build their own line of Downeast style boats there. I say, if your going to do it, do it right!

I can't say enough about Campbell's. I visited several yards before selecting them. The workmanship on the boats they build is exquisite. Tom, Susan, and Doug are great to deal with. Tom has opened the shop up on several Saturdays to let us check out their work and takes great pride in the yard s workmanship. When they were prepping the bilge they asked me about the old bilge lights. I told Tom that I would change them out later. A couple of days later he contacted me saying that it was a small job and they would get me the lights at cost and install them for free. He said that the man prepping the bilge wanted to fill in the screw holes from the old lights. I was surprised in this day and age that they were worried about a couple of small holes. This also explains the blue hue in some of the pictures! For those who go to the Annapolis boat show they are usually there. It is worth checking out their craftsmanship. One last note, They told me that the 370 EC reminds them of old Bertram s on how solidly it is built.

If I was paying that kind of money and getting that kind of work done, I would be sitting in a chair watching the entire project come to life in shear excitement. Way to go. That is going to be one unique ride when she is done.

Very, very nice! As I've always heard, "You can't take it with you." Enjoy the boat, and please post LOTS of pics!! You are living my dream, so thanks a bunch!

Has this ever been said before? Your bilge is gorgeous!

I believe you could serve dinner on the floor of that bilge, and dessert on the tops of those engines!

Superbly shipshape!

(I vote these pictures as contenders for the 2015 calendar!)

Someone always has to say something less than positive. VERY nice looking setup! I love the 370EC. I'd like to have one of those or a diesel 390EC. Anyway, great job!

Don't misunderstand me, I am not being negative. I have $40,000 into a Jaguar XJ12 that is worth about $8,000, so I do understand the love someone has for a specific model/year/style boat, car or whatever. I was just remarking on it, that's all.

True, but we did not find anything that we liked better even at $500k. Basically mechanically it will be new. I have not waxed the hull yet but you can still see yourself in it and the interior is perfect.

Its nice when you can find something you can completely fall in love with, when cost or price doesn't factor in at all.

Not a problem! We all have different loves, opinions, and vices. It's one of the things that makes life interesting.

Were any of you "Cheers" fans? There was an early episode in which Sam sells his prized Corvette and is amazed at how much money he saves by not owning it. Then he starts to do the math and calculates how soon he could use his savings to buy his Corvette back. You only go around once!

If it were me though, I wouldn't consider this repower project done until the deck hatch is fitted with see-through panels.

I love the install work and look forward to your elated comments when you take her for her maiden run.

I have one suggestion though on the wiring. If I am looking at the clean bilge installation correctly, with the 2 main batteries centre of picture. There is a bunch of wires running to those terminals, and if I am correct several in line (red) fuse holders. With the dollar value you are affording to this install. I would prefer to see a main wire feed running to a distribution point and a Fuse Box, with as few wires as possible connected to the battery terminals

Excellent point! I will have to check on that. I believe that they are 2 harnesses that run to the 2 white control boxes in the picture.

Wow, interesting thread. You definitely earn a permanent man card for this!

Great project, and very nice of you to share so much information. Those are some great engines.
