Repower options - 97 Sundancer 330

At the Seattle Boat Show a few years ago at one booth was a Mercruiser rep and the owner of the shop. They went over in detail what was required and prices replacing 2 engines and all the things on them for 32K. No work was to be done to the transmission other than to "Check them out and repair at cost as required"

sounds like overwhelming consensus here is dont worry about trans...

Update: I’ve decided on a “new” long block 7.4 with new risers and manifolds swapping over everything else from old engine. Probably going to be a month before back in the water. Marine shop was kind enough to give us a slip at their marina so we could at least enjoy the up coming holidays and my Bday in/on water. 900lbs of sand bags later....lol
Transmission shop confirmed no need for Transy to be sent out.

They'll probably do this anyway, but I would make sure and replace the shaft seals when the motor is out. Free wheeling one transmission for an extended length of time can overheat the seals. Shouldn't be any issue with the transmission itself.

Sorry from your issues but this was what i was looking for. My engines continue to work great. 2175 hours on them. Some people say I am on borrowed time others say could be no problem for another 1000. So those here what are the hours on your 1995 370s. Any 3500+ out there?

I would suggest starting a new thread about it, in which you are not yelling.

well after a long storied repair in which the starboard engine replaced and the port heads redone...after sitting for a couple months our first ride was yesterday that ended by being towed in. as soon as we tried to throttle up the engines...we had a "bang" happen..starboard transmission developed a clanking sound while in forward (not in reverse), engine shut down..oil pressure went into alarm..everything happened within seconds. will this ever end? after sitting for a few hours at dock oil pressure looked "ok"...hoping to go under to look at props to see if we hit anything. very frustrating

That is a horrible way for the day to end after spending the money on an engine and having the heads redone. I'm hoping it is something simple. It sounds like you struck something or something got wrapped around the prop. That fits most of what you reported. The transmission damper plate will make a racket if the engine has a dead miss or if it was damaged in a prop strike. The engine shutdown just seems to fit you hit something that stopped the transmission and the engine.

Oh the misery. Feel your pain!

update: while still in water, friend camera'd underwater no apparent signs of prop damage...barnacles for sure on prop...B.O.A.T. break out another thousand (s)...smh...engine appears to be fine, oil pressure holding at 40 or so PSI that's the good news. I'm wondering if over-barnacled props caused wobble and did something to trans? anything below the decking i'm "El-Stupido"...lol
