I am replacing my SR Navigator, I would like to put in a Raymarine E80 or E120. It looks like the E80 will work without a lot of modifications. Does anyone have any experience they can share?

I've got them on my 2005 390 and have been looking to get rid of them..problem is I want the E series and because it's digital you have to replace the spinner thingie (sorry, forgot the name on top..Array? ) bottom line about 17k. Pass. I'll live with the SR Navigagor, dont dislike that much.

Look at the dimensions of the E120 vs. the SR Navigator. The dealer replaced the SRN with an E120 before I bought my boat and I am pretty sure it was a direct drop in replacement. The E120 can work with either an analog or digital array.

I have decided to hold off replacing my SR Navigator. The touch screen will not calibrate but I can use the mouse to get all the functions to work. I have checked my Radar Array and the serial number indicates it will work with a E120 when I replace the SR Navigator. Thanks for the help.

I'm curious why you would want to replace SR Navigators with E120s? What are the benefits of the E120 over the SR Navigator. I'm familiar with (and like) the Raymarine equipment and I'm looking at the pre-owned boat with dual Navigators. The dealer told me the Navigators were far superior to the E120s (obviously their first interest is in selling the boat) and not being familiar with SR Navigator's I didn't know if that was true or not. Anyway, if you don't mind, I'd love to hear what you don't like about the SR Navigator and what you would be getting with the E120 (and losing)?

Thanks!
Jason

Other than the fact they are a piece of crap, not made anymore, unreliable and not supported anymore, they are just fine. Ask your salesman why Sea Ray and Maptech stopped supporting them if they are so good.... What else is he telling you?

They are nothing more than a Windoze PC that you can't update... When was the last time you saw a Windoze PC that stayed stable without updates (or with updates for that matter)?

If you are going to replace the electronics, I would really consider something other than Raymarine.

Good feedback, but what do you really think? :) Seriously, appreciate the input. Sounds like they would be a big negative. What do you recommend over Raymarine?

Jason

Furuno. Maybe Garmin, but that's a well-qualified maybe. Their general aviation stuff is good, but don't know about their marine.

Knowing where and how you boat would be helpful...

On my boat and how we use it, and I was spending your money, I would get two Furuno NavNet 3D systems, the Furuno 6kw 4' open array radar, a Furuno satalite compass/heading sensor/GPS combo thingy, use my KVH heading sensor as a backup, and use my Airmar weather station's GPS as a redundent backup, and still keep my bridge PC....

But that's just me... If you are going around on Lake Lanier, that's probably overkill.

Lake Lanier most of the year and Florida for 2-3 weeks of cruising each summer (this time to the Keys and Bahamas). It's those Florida trips where I really want good nav. Checked out the Furuno video on Google, very, very impressive. Thanks!

Furuno has (still) issues with their vector charts for the NN3D. Some who own them like 'em, others think the charting sucks badly enough that they're sorry they bought them. Check out info on this forum- plenty there:

I have both "C" and "E" Raymarine MFD's and am very pleased with them. For that matter, you'll find a lot of guys like Garmin as well. Your choices (and recommendations from others) depend on what capabilities you're seeking.

I don't know the SR Navigator- is it purely a plotter- or does it have multifunction capability? If you've never seen an MFD display radar and aerial photo overlay on a chart at the same time it's worth checking out. I don't think the SR Navigator can do that...

There is no doubt that Furuno screwed the pooch on releasing the NavNet 3D product line a year too early. It really damaged their reputation. However, it seems the latest updates have fixed those issues (i.e. finished the product).

I *really* like the radar capabilities on the Furuno stuff...

I hear that Furuno hired some QA and marketing guys from Mercury, so everything should be fine.

been tooling around in a few boats and here are my comments.

bought a 45 DA in 2005 and brought it close to a 1000nm from michingan city IN to cleveland. It had the raytheon 602 something on it. OK to use but black and white screens and other things, moved me to upgrade.

Went with Furuno NN2 and put 2 screens in along with Furunos 4kw open array radar. All is good and peachy with this unit, love the color, etc, but now my cruising on the 45 is all but done. This year, zero, last year a trip to 1000 islands but i had a couple of my engineers who boat alot take the boat to and from the Oswego NY for me. While in the 1000 islands, the NN2 was great.

Then got another boat with Admiral Max Pro and that is something for navigation--PC based and the sky is the limit. travels included Ft Myers to DC to the Abacos and that thing is totally impressive. You get to do exactly what you want to do with your naviation plan and how you want it presented. I have big bay monitors at the bridge and helm and don't like them as much as the furuno 10.4 screens

Got a small center console with two Raymarine E-120s and really like that system, use it the most of any since it seems that this boat has this uncontrollable urge to make a 1.25hour run (daylight at 35mph one way) to Charleston and return in the deep dark via the ICW everytime I am in town. So, on the ICW, with the 2 screens and the radar running, getting mucho experience with the system and like it, especially the viewing on the creens. Sidebar--all the naviagtion equipment is great, but at night the savior is the NVGs. even with the best nav stuff out there, i wouldnt go w/o nvgs.

sidebar 2--for backups to all this, got some handheld garmins first the colorado and then the oregon. the oregon with the touchscreen stuff is sweet.

for the wrap up--a pc based solution like Admiral is my favorite, but want the screens like raymarine or furuno, but will wait for the next good touchscreen to work with admiral.

and now, the real reason i wrote.....threadjack.......on teh E-120s, can't figure out how to reset the LOG, how to shutup the navigation arrival alarm (can adjust the radius, but i want the thing off), dang heading databar item does not display info, and iguess you gotta do something other than just hope to get the honda engine data info to display?

Have a new year that is happy.

I have a C-120 Radar/Charplotter mounted next to a SR Navigator. For various reasons, I want to replace the Navigator with another C-120.
Question 1: Is it just a simple plug and play situation? do I need additional cables?
Is it something that I should be able to do myself?
Question 2: Will each Unit have the ability to display radar and chart plotter.
Ultimately I like the Raymarine charts much more than the SR Charts. When using the split screen option on the C-120 at night with Radar on, the Chartplotter details are more vague versus using the chartplotter on the full screen and therefore I want to have a full screen radar on one side and a full screen Chartplotter on the other screen. Thanks for help in adavance guys.
