I am replacing the shower water pump on a 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 270SE. I am not sure where the electrical wire leads to but in it seems to go to the switches behind the helm. Is it OK to just splice the new pump wires to the existing wire? I am not sure how I need to go about feeding the new wire all the way to the helm. Anyone ever replace their shower pump, the one located under the step leading down below where the trash can goes?

How in the world can you get to the sump? I often wondered if you had to pull the steps out to gain access to it.....If you can get to the wires, I would use a sealed disconnect plug and socket like is found on motorcycles....those are some tight working quarters for sure.

Once the wiring is out of the sump, I would splice it with solder-less connects and heat shrink the connections. No reason to re-run the entire wire.

Thanks, I was hoping someone would suggest that. Stray Cat, there is a hinged tread on one of the steps where you can gain access. and also have a trash can placed. Enough room to work also.

I replaced mine last season. You will have to remove the step. I made the mistake of just buying the pump. Newer Rule pumps will not fit in the old sumps. Mine is now held in with one screw but it's working fine. I just spliced the wires just outside the box and used heat shrink. The toughest part was getting the inlet hose on and off. Even with the step removed it's very awkward getting two arms in there. If you decide to cut the hose, you might need a plumbers tool to widen the new end to fit it on the inlet.
And take care of the new sump by flushing with bilge cleaner every now and then. Trust me, you won't want to do this job twice.
