Hey Guys,

My old Raymarine is dead and I'm ready to purchase from BOE a new Standard Horizon with AIS and DCS built in. great radio but slightly smaller in width and height than the hole that was cut out for the larger Ray unit. Most of today's radios are smaller in footprint. Any suggestions as to how to fill the hole so it will take the new radio?

Thanks

Barry

i ran into the same thing....i used a flush mount kit like this one to cover the opening....

+1 on the flush mount kit. Most radios have a specific model to fit their radios perfect. Nice clean installation.

Where did you find the flush mount kit. I ended up having to do mine from Starboard. What a PITA.

David,
i got the flush mount kit from Uniden....as dev6315 said most manufacturers likely have similar kits to fit their specific radios....

These days all they have are these flush mount clips.. I haven't seen the mount like yours for a while. I hate to use starboard, and if I knew enough about fiberglass, I'd try to glass in the hole and re-drill, but I know I'd never match the color anyway, so some kind of white mounting kit would be ideal. I'm excited to get the Standard Horizon with AIS built in, and hook it up to my Garmin 5208 too.. I didn't realize that my old Raymarine didn't even connect to my gps, so the DSC wouldn't have worked anyway... And BOE had the best price on this unit...

i just put my new Uniden radio in last year and i just found some of their flush mount kits still avaliable on line....maybe Standard Horizon does not offer such mounting kits anylonger.....it may be worth checking to see if the Uniden flush mount kit would happen to work with your SH radio....

Your local plastics manufacturer can fabricate anything you want out of a variety of plastics. Take them the radio template and the dimensions of the hole and see what they can make.

A google search shows these guys are in Lauderdale.

thanks.. I forgot about them.. (I'm in the sign business, so have a variety of plastics and substrates always delivered for us to cut and use...I was hoping something that would look seamless... guess I'm going to have to find something that makes a good looking backplate.

You mean something like this?

I just installed the same radio. Double check the NMEA ports on your display. If you don't have enough available you may find yourself buying a NMEA multiplexer that will cost more than the radio did!

Hi Henry,

Will do.. There are 4 ports to receive, and 2 to send (NMEA 0183) I wanted to also hook up the Smartcraft cables that i just found out are hanging behind the gauges and if I can get them connected will show engine info on my chart plotter too..
